Relocating LTD Transfer case Switch

This is on my mod wish list. Anybody know the part number for the dual cup holders?

Have you considered relocating the transfercase switch - replacing with the dual cupholder? I haven't actually seen a 4R with the dual cupholder, but the part is available in the catalog and the owners manual shows it. I would replace the switch with a rocker type switch - as there's really on 3 modes, 4x4h, locked 4x4h and locked 4x4l. I would retro the center diff to an OE switch in one of the blanks, that would only require a rocker switch between low and high.

Looks to me that the parts needed are:

58831-35030 GARNISH, CONSOLE UPR
58917-35050 MAT, BOX BOTTOM, NO

Both ordered and will be posting details in my Mod Thread when I get around to seeing if I can do this.

Just saw this! Yay! Where are you moving the switch to or are you doing what I was thinking retroing another factory rocker switch or something.

Mods aside, I am a big fan of things looking factory installed so I'm thinking of moving the switch to the left of the steering wheel - down where that orphan switch blank is (if you know where I mean). Looking behind the bottom trim panel there if I go much more to the right I would not have clearance behind due to a piece of metal bracing. Otherwise does not look like its that big of a deal moving it.....famous last words

Post what you were thinking in regards to a factory rocker switch - sounds interesting.

I'll eat year old popcorn to see this mod working! Don't know why they put that giant knob there instead of something simpler on the dash or the overhead console. Honestly I'm more worried about the finished look of the center console rather than what the switch looks like.

Know what you mean - its the one thing I thought silly even when I took my first test drive. Its been on the back of my mind so I guess now is as good a time as ever. Before I ordered the parts I took the center console apart to see what's what. The new part should fit right in to look like it should have to begin with.

Looks more like a square box instead of a 2nd. cup holder. Still waiting to hear what was meant by OEM rocker switch.

Well, got the new center piece. It will be a while before I attempt this so in the meantime any suggestions? Since the OEM dial is so large I was looking for alternatives.

Maybe the glove box, or perhaps relocate behind that folding door right below the HVAC switches where the AUX hook up us?

There are much smaller dial type switches, ex 2011 Landcruiser that I think would work great. Might even be plug and play - I dunno.
I'm at work so I can't find a picture now, but look at the ignition start button on the 2011 lc - the dial is right below it. It's small and compact.

As far as rocker switch, what I was looking for was a center differential push button switch. I swear i've seen it on other models, it might have even been a Nissan truck. And a simple 4h 4l rocker switch. 2 switches, small compact. The built in electronics in the 4R keep you from screwing anything up.

Yeah, been looking at other Toyota dial type switches but its been a real PIA trying to find pictures / part numbers. A smaller dial would certainly offer many more mounting options. Plug n Play would be a wet dream come true If anybody comes across any pics and / or part numbers please do post.

Just wanted to bump this one last time in case any of you got any smarter. :naughty:

So far I've tried using the Taco push buttons and the Tacoma smaller dial without much joy. The Tacoma looked the most promising since even the connector was the same but even after a few mods it ended up working exactly opposite of what's needed for my truck.

So, before I just move and use the existing monster dial, any additional thoughts?

How about the prado 150's switches? Check out the south american toyota website.
Most of the interior is identical to the 5th gen.

Makes me think the mid-year refresh will bring back rear a/c/heat.

Philly, there are 2 versions of the tc switch in the prado - download the toyota jamaica brochure and flip through it to see them. One doesn't have the air suspension/leveling
