Remote start auto-off on entry

Is it possible to stop the auto-off feature after remote start upon entry? It makes absolutely no sense that remote start shuts off upon opening the door when you can get out with the key, leave the engine running and go into your house, take a leak and get back in without it shutting off. If it's a safety concern, they must have not been too worried.

ya...i have the same problem...stupidest thing ever....I went back to the dealer and asked if they could change this and they said no.
I told them it make zero sense but they said that with the "python" or viper (dont remember which snake it is) one that they installed thats how it is. He said that the toyota one that doesnt need a separate key doesnt shut off when you open the door.
Mine is great cuz it works from 2000 ft but the suckiness of it shutting off when you open the door trumps that

Totally sucks. I find myself not even using mine as often as my old remote start in my old vehicle for this exact reason. Its pointless. Hopefully someone will figure out how to fix. I am sure its just a wire coming from the remote start that cuts the engine, if we could override that we would be all good.

Just had my remote start added and the dealer's computer guy tried to find anyway to disable it and couldnt.

I also asked if he could do research to see if the wiper de-icer could be activated via the remote start and said he'd call tech support on monday about it.

awesome idea for the wiper de-icer, I never thought whether that would be possible.
As an unintentional experiment, I had too many drinks to drive home and my wife was pulling the car in the garage, but before she pulled in, I got out (with the key in my pocket) the car beeped 3 times and she was still able to drive the truck - another example of why the remote start auto shut-off is purely ridiculous.

Yup, the remote engine start -- shut off when you get in thing is just dumb.
We're having a spring blizzard here in Colorado, so I thought hey, how great to be able to start the car from inside and let it warm up... starting works fine, heater worked great, but disappointing that the engine shuts off.

I also tried the wiper heater, that thing doesn't seem to do anything but light the LED on the switch. Not sure if it is just too stinking cold and windy here today or what, but the ice built up on both my wipers and the A pillars on my trip to the gas station. Please comment on your experience with the wiper de-icer if you get a chance to try it out, maybe mine is defective.

I do have to say, from a handling perspective on the ice and snow, my new 4R Limited rocks, even with the stock bicycle tires, compared to my old 98 Exploder.

I'm out in Parker. I like what you have done with your 4Runner, that lift looks great!

I'm not sure what I am going to do about the wheels and tires on my truck, but I'll probably pull off the 20s off and go with 17s this summer so put a little more rubber between the truck and the road for the trails. I'll probably raise mine up a bit, but I don't think I'll go as high as you did.

Also, once remote start is activated, you cannot unlock the door with the remote - you have to use the key manuallay - but at least the engine stays on unlike the Viper. Once I heard that the Toyota remote worked like that...it was a no brainer. I put the Viper system for $300 and to date I"m very pleased.

Mine opens with the key fob. Just shuts the engine off when you unlock it. I, too, think this is the dumbest system I've ever seen. My Expedition stayed running unless you hit the brake. Hell it even had a function to leave the car running without the keys in it and lock the doors when you get out. My Avalance didn't shut off, and my Tahoe didn't shut off. Makes no sense.

i install my remote start next week. i tried putting a aftermarket remote start on other cars and i had a terrible time with trying to get people to install it correctly. i will deal with it shutting off if it will work properly. for $300, i would rather go oem than aftermarket.

Concur. Why the hang up with OEM? I mean the remote start is sold by Toyota but I doubt manufactured through them - the "OEM" remote start module is just as an after-market, however, costs more and does less...

For me it was the ease of getting it done. I hate having to go to after-market electronics shops to get anything done, much less purchase something that starts a vehicle I am not in at the time. I've seen first hand what they have done with 1st year model vehicles as they "learn"... no thanks.

Remote Start

I made sure my TE had a factory installed remote start. I can deal with it shutting off when I unlock the door. I have been down that road a few times with after market alarms and remote starts. Never again.

I edited this to add that its been my experience that alot of these stereo places dont employee the greatest people. I have seen them duplicate keys and people NEW stereo systems etc just happen to have then stolen a week weeks after install at their homes with no damage to thier vehicle or alarms going off.

If you must use them. Use the valet key, pay cash, do not list your home or work address. If you need a spoof address just use your local police department. Just FYI.

just installed the OEM remote start last weekend at my dads work. much happier than going with aftermarket although it will get annoying having the car shut off when i want to get in, but i can will deal with it. had to take about the whole lower half of the dash along with radio and ac controls to get the wire harness fed through.

Was it necessary to perform the immobilizer/remote ECU handshake procedure with a Toyota Techstream notebook or did you just make the necessary harness connections and use the ignition key on/off sequence?

in my area...ive had several remote starters installed in various vehicles over the years...including my 2010 4Runner..i use a custom shop...they do work such as wheel-chair lifts in vehicles and other mobility products...they install the sirens and lights for local emergency vehicles...and been in business for decades....so people may want to look for those kinds of shops with history...rather than strictly...radio/security installation shops...etc...i agree those shops come-and-go regularly and don't have as solid of a history.
