removing mud and salt

All 4 wheels of the 4Runner were below the hubs in mud. With 300' of cable, we managed to winch out the rescue vehicle within two hours. I spent more than an hour with a wand car wash but quit after the floor was covered in 1/4-1/2" of mud. I went back the next day and repeated the process.

I was amazed at smoothness of my mud balanced wheels.

Finally today, I drove the 4Runner onto four ramps and spent another two hours power washing.

Conclusion: Even if one never drives in the mud, I suggest a meticulous washing of the bottom every spring to rinse off the salt and prevent rust and look for damage. I applaud the design of Shrockworks front bumper, sliders, and skids for resisting collection of mud and salt; their powder coating is very durable. The CBI rear bumper is also easy to clean.

Good luck to all.
