Replace Antenna on front fender?

[4RunnerTrail]

Has anyone replace the Antenna on the front fender? What is the antenna on the roof for?

Roof antenna is for the XM/Sirius radio.

it can be replaced with a lot of universal antennas for a shorter one, there are a couple of other threads on this

There are several on ebay that would be attractive, although most likely at the expense of radio reception.
