Replacement Tires for 03'?

Tire Size

well one of the companies is Michelin with their Cross Terrains. These come as standard on some 03 Runners(wish one was mine!!! instead of the Dunlops).

Yokohama Geolander, Nitto, Goodyear MTR and BF Goodrich come to mind. These sizes are 265/70 17. Which is one size up from stock, that is what I am going to replace my stock Dunlap's with.

Did you upsize? If so, did you have trouble with the hitch?

That hitch might prove to be a problem. Along with the exhaust pipe routing.

Yes, I am concerned about the 265/70 x17 tires rubbing when turned full right or left. There is not much room in the stock wheelwell. I would like to install a beefier tire and was wondering if 265/70 x17 or 275/65 x17 would be better. The 70 would add width, the 275 would add height. I am also concerned about the frame mounted stock trailer hitch, there is not much room for tire growth with the intrusion the hitch makes on the spare tire area. Any solutions, experiences?

Sac,

One solution: you can deflate the spare tire to make it fit. However, you will need a tire inflator to use it when you need to use the spare. This is similar to what Mercedes are doing with their spare.

Good luck.

I seem to recall a thread on this very topic and that the 265/70-17 was OK in the wheel wells even with the steering wheel turned full left or full right. Aplogies since I'm out of town right now and don't have time to search for it, but check it out.

Here are a few threads on this topic:

Upsizing your tire...what to consider

Tire Balancing...MUST READ!

I am sure that 265/70/17 will fit in your 4runner with no problem...the ONLY time that you MAY have a problem is during extreme wheel travel (in the rear) or extreme steering angle with extreme wheel travel (in the front).

275/65/17 will also fit...this size actually has a smaller diameter than 265/70/17. If you go bigger than 265/70/17, then you will definitely rub!

Hope this helps.
