Replacing 4 Pin trailer wiring with pics

Maybe I haven't searched and found the right thread and/or one thread had missing pictures 'cause it was so old.
Anyways, I want to replace/fix my 4 pin trailer wiring. (I'm a visual learner).

Picture key:
Top Left: "Problem" - 5 wires, brown one is cut. (don't understand why there is 5 on a 4 pin hook up?)
Bottom left: 5 wires coming up through the driver's side floor, green one goes to the passenger side??
Top right: 4/5 wires (brown, red, white, yellow) are connecting behind panel on driver's side?
Bottom right: new part I ordered off amazon. How can I make this work?

I was hoping to un-plug the old connection with the spliced wire and replace it with new piece, (simple fix, right?) but realized I cannot do that.

Thoughts/suggestions/help...

i guess i should of done a write up on this when i did this a couple of weeks ago.

so there are 5 wires because, you have a brake light, a running light, left turn signal, right turn signal, and ground. brown is your brake/tail, white is your ground green is your right turn, yellow is your left turn. hope that helps let me know if you have any more questions.


-i just went down to napa auto parts and bought a vehicle side kit, and cut and spliced it into my factory harness. i swapped mine out cause the dust cover wouldnt stay on anymore, and the sheathing/isolation on the wires was getting old and brittle, and starting to crack. so i wanted a good connection and conduction, and so i replaced it. i made sure my splices were inside the vehicle and i used di-electric grease on all of them along with two layers of heat shrink. then wrapped it in 3/8" loom and silicon self sealing tape. on the portion that is outside the truck i doubled the loom(1/2" over 3/8") and again used silicon tape at the ends -about 6" up the line to keep things weather resistant. i can get pics for you if you want or need.

I bought a replacement from the dealer, I believe there is a plug in the rear cargo area over driver side wheel well; just unplug the old one and plug in the new one, $38.00 part but worth it to not connect new wires and all. Correct me if I'm wrong, it HAS been a while! (2001)

The old white box you have is a trailer light converter. Why does it have five wires and not four? Its because the truck uses two bulbs for your brake and turn lamps. The trailer only has one bulb that is uses for both functions. The converter makes this happen.

It looks like the new plug you have is basically an extension cord. Do you have a link for that part?

So, without pictures (I know, I'm a visual type as well...)
FROM THE TRUCK TO THE CONVERTOR: Right turn lamp (Green), the Left turn lamp (Yellow), Brake lamps (Red), Tail lamps (Brown) and Ground (White.) Connect these wires to the convertor.

FROM THE CONVERTER TO THE EXTERIOR PLUG: Right turn AND Brake is the Green wire, Left turn AND Brake is the Yellow wire, Brown is Tail and White is Ground.

thats the wiring i did, im not gonna take it all out of layers or loom it put it in, but it shows where it comes out of the truck at, and yeah its really strait forward...
