Replacing a totalled 4R Trail

Unfortunately as stated ,insurance won't just buy you a new one and you'll take the hit for depreciation UNLESS you have GAP insurance.They'll just pay it off and cut you a check if you have any asset left over.Glad to hear your OK!

Aftermarket navs are easy to have installed and IMO is way better then the OEM nav and I've had both. I think Pioneer has a better music interface,especially with ipods,and Kenwoods have the better Nav. as they use Garmin software. The Pioneer touch screen is alot like Apple's Iphone,Ipod Ipad interface and supposedly designed by the same people, with it's touch and flick gestures to go thru music . I have a 160gb Ipod classic with all my music in my glovebox hooked to it and love it. Plus my kids can plug their Ipods in.

The Pioneers use TomTom Nav software and it's only a little better then what's used in the OEM nav ,which also use Tomtom. On VC last year I used the Pioneer Nav and it got me there with a couple of glitches along the 6300 mile trip. This year,4300 miles,I used my updated Garmin Nuvi 680 and it was so much more user friendly and a joy compared to tomtom's. Maybe I'm just used to Garmin thru the years.

Thanks Antman, I was driving straight and the green turned yellow as the front bumper hit the intersection. She freaked out and hit the gas not the brake, both of us walked away after 10000 pounds of vehicle were both totaled so I'm good with it.

Either way I bought another '11 trail, this time without nav, and will be putting an aftermarket nav system in it. I looked over crutchfield and found a few Sony, Pioneer, Alpine, etc systems but I'm really looking at the Rosen system that is essentially OEM with a 3/36k warranty.

I'm back gents!
 
Use my 3G IPad with a ram mount in my non-Nav TE. Works extremely well, and I obviously get to enjoy using the IPad outside of the vehicle. After using this setup I would never consider spending the $$$ for an in-dash system.

Ok...Am I the only one confused here? If you were driving straight how did she impact you so hard on the side? If your light was green/yellow hers would have been red. Even if she was waiting to turn left (left turn yield on green), she would have not had the momentum to impact you and cause that damage. Another member *almost* had that kind of accident a little while back. You said she ran the yellow earlier but then you say you passed under a yellow earlier and it seems like a t-bone accident, which does not make sense. Sorry Antman, I am curious.

Now that it is totaled I'm wondering how much access you have to it? I'm sure there are a few people on here who would want some parts! Possible TE roof rack. You could be like that Subaru commercial and take your old gear shift knob to your new 4R.

Seriously though, accidents like these are why I drive what I do. If he would have been in a Civic I doubt he would be here so quick looking for another one!
 
No, you’re not the only one confused. The OP started posting in April of this year when he received his T4R. He posted regularly until the supposed accident. There was never anything detailing the accident that I can find on T4R.com. The fact that he's an O-3 in the AF is making this much harder as I have no idea how a college educated helicopter pilot can be so inept at driving. The story is flip-flopping and the details are being skirted around.

You "senior" members can bitc h at me all you want for calling the OP out; nothing is adding up regardless of the origional question.
 
Thank god for the internet detectives scouring the forum for clues in order to get to the bottom of this really important matter. I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight until I find out what happened in this car accident about a person I don't know and will never meet.

I sure hope someone gets to the bottom of this. :snacker:

Question, do you have any photos of the aftermath? I am just curious to see how everything behaved out in the crash.

My 2cents:

if you can wait, go for a 2012 with the Entune system. I just found out about this thing last week, had I known about it a month ago, I probably would have waited, that being said, it will probably be a while before you can get a hold of one, and you probably need a car in the near future.

2. Kenwood and Pioneer seem to be popular, I had a couple pioneer nav units a few years ago, winded up tearing them out because they took too long to boot. drove me crazy. Ended up with an alpine iXA-404 which is no longer made, but they have a new model with a big touch screen called, ina-900bt or something like that, looks pretty good, only thing about alpine nav is they almost never seem to update the maps, they just come out with something new.

again, glad to hear you survived without injury, and I hope you get a new 4runner soon.
 
Picked up my new salsa red TE and it is just as sweet as the last one! I'm going to go with a 2012 Garmin Nuvi as soon as they come out, $400 bucks is way easier to part with than $14-2100 for an in-dash system especially considering I have to get another set of Duratracs to replace the pathetic rubber I'm rolling on now.

For all of you questioning my driving skills, go f*ck yourselves!!! I came here to ask opinions about a nav system to replace the one everyone here complains about, thankfully a few of you responded with useful responses and I appreciate it. I'll post some pics of the carnage for all the traffic cops out there. Thanks to some of you for the info, I'll review my new nuvi ASAP.

wish I could get some of the TE parts, the wheels still look good.

Nuvi is a good one, hope you got the LMT model with lifetime updates. A little sketchy to update if you are running a Mac but it works.

Shows you what those side airbags are good for. Seriously though, can you explain which way everyone was traveling in that accident? I could care less whose fault it is but I just can't figure out what happened.

He won't say what happened, but I think we can all figure it out.

He turned right on red in front of someone who was traveling through an intersection with the right of way is my guess
 
Grape Ape, I didn't realize you were a traffic cop thanks for making that incorrect assumption. You know what they say about making assumptions.

I'm still not sure how this turned into a traffic accident discussion but at least a few folks helped out with nav question I had.

I was traveling southbound on a 4 lane divided road when a lady heading northbound on the same road turned left in front of me. Just like I said in the first post she "failed to yield on a left turn" and was cited accordingly on the scene. I saw her hit the gas so I swerved and jumped on the brakes to avoid her but had cross road traffic on my right side waiting at the light so my escape options were limited. She had limited visibility due to a moving truck in the southbound turn lane and instead of creeping out into her turn lane she accelerated into the intersection before clearing it appropriately. There were no red lights run, sorry Mr Ape.

Please direct any further questions to the Albuquerque PD, I'm sure they'd be happy to help.

By the way I'm looking pretty hard at the soon to be released Nuvi 3490LMT, should do the trick.

Everyone's curiosity is satisfied!...btw, you never mentioned that in your first post, that's why everyone was asking. And I didn't make an assumption, I specifically stated it was a guess. Amazing how much of an an ass you were to everyone who asked a simple question, but it was ok for you to do it, but not for others to ask you anything.

Also, why do you get to ask a question, but we don't? We were just looking for a simple answer just like you were to your question. I just wish more pots would look in the mirror before yelling at the kettle. Good day sir.
 
Thank god someone got to the bottom of that. I love how everything from the accuracy of his story, to his profession were being called into question, and yet he's the ass for sticking up for himself? What possible motivation would he have for not telling the truth? There were a dozen ways his story made sense before he explained it further.

Glad you got a new truck man, and +1 on the aftermarket nav. Wife has a Matrix with toyota nav, and it sucks. I had to lock pick it to make it decent, and for the probably 2500$ I spent I could have got something way better.

BTW, unrelated but love the helicopter pilots. Nothing makes my job easier than an aircraft that can stop :D
