Replacing door speakers, need opinions

so which ones did u install 6x9 or 6.5?...what HU do u have?..am thinking of just upgrading my front speakers..and am caught up in the 6.5, 6-3/4'', 6x9 dilenma

I actually just posted on your thread. I went with the 6x9's. You need to either use a spacer ring (included with speakers) or dremel the F out of the stock brackets (which I did on one)
I would advise the spacer ring lol. otherwise, it's a direct fit. They sound SO GOOD. I'm running alpine 6x9 front 6.5 rear Audiobahn 1" tweeters in the doors and rear pillars with stock crossovers (make sure you want to keep those with the 6x9's)
and a JL sub/amp to top it off with a cheap Alpine Headunit (CDE-133BT) and it sounds amazing. The sound is very level with your ears, it doesn't sound like its below you.

ok, nice..another noob question.

The spacer rings come with the speakers for the 6x9.
I had to uh... epoxy my 6.5's in place so i dont recommend getting that exact set. They did not fit with the stock brackets. I used 4 drops of epoxy so I could get it off if need be.
6.5 are 2 way, 6x9 are 3 way.
The 6x9s have very good bass... those + JL 8" sub/amp will shake the car like a pair of 10's

I have done 6x9's and 1" silk dome tweeters in my front doors on both my 03 and 08 4runner and have been more than happy with the sound.

was thinking of installing 6.5 pioneer speakers...front and rears, but after listening to you guys..am thinking of installing this Amazon.com: JBL GTO938 6 x 9-Inch 3-Way Loudspeaker: Car Electronics 6x9 front and 6.5 rears

Those look good.
They should come with spacer rings. If not, I have at least one, maybe two I can ship you.

and probablly install this stealth subwoofer if the bass isnt good enough

I have had nothing but the est of luck with crutch field.
I highly recommend the JL sub/amp combo in the stock enclosure.

my tech skills arent high enough for the refitting ops..opening up my truck and running wires/amps etc...intend to go through the pioneer flat sub route route and see how it goes
the pioneer avh4400 has a sub out line...i intend to hook up the sub to that....the sound should be decent enough.............and gives me the option of taking out the sub to another car if i desire

Yep that's the stock enclosure, however if your truck doesn't have it, there is some cutting and modification required

on a scale of 1 - 10, removing the door panel..how difficult was it, i know there is a write up on it, but dont trust my diy skills that much.
so what speakers are those?..looks like full range speakers....

Door panels come off very easy. The armrest pad pulls right up and unclips from the door panel revealing one large screw. I believe the only other screw is a smaller one beneath the plastic insert where the door latch pull is. You can pry out the insert using a very small flat head screwdriver (like one's you'd use for eyeglasses). There is also a plastic rivet type thing near the front of the door panel where it closes against the side of the dash when the door is shut.
After that, it's just a matter of pulling on the panel starting from the bottom corners upward unclipping all the plastic panel clips that hold the panel to the sheet metal behind it. I say to start from the bottom because there are no plastic clips along the top, you have to undo all the clips around the bottom and 2 sides then the panel will lift off at the top. It has a lip that overlaps and connects it to the sheet metal along the top edge. Once you've lifted the panel off and it starts to come away from the door, there will be one more screw that attaches the interior door opening latch mechanism (where you removed the small plastic insert earlier) to the inside of the panel. That's it. It's a good idea to go buy some extra plastic panel clips so you have them in case you break any pulling the door panel off. They are not that expensive for a box of 25.
Not sure what you mean by "looks like full range speakers"? Maybe the chrome nipple in the center of the woofer is throwing you off. That is a phase plug that is "supposed" to help in sound dispersion when the woofer is mounted off-axis (which means not pointed right at you). They are the JBL MS-62C component set. For the money, they sound great and can take a bit of power...but I will soon be replacing them with much better components as well as going to a 3-way active setup with 6 speakers. The JBL's are ok if you want to only run off a headunit or a small amount of amp power (say upwards to 80 watts), but much beyond that and they begin to become overpowered if you really want to crank them. I do however have mine crossed over at a fairly low frequency to get some decent midbass out of them, so they are working pretty hard.

I'm looking at replacing the front door speakers with 6x9's as well. Did you buy 6x9 separates? Or did you use standard 6x9's and purchase an additional tweeter to install in the stock location? If so, did you use the stock crossovers to wire them up?
