Replacing JBL SUB

I am new to this forum and would like to replace the JBL sub in my 08 LTD and have read all the great information about all the steps required to get to the sub for replacement etc. Thanks very much for the informative guidelines that have proven to be very helpful. My question has to do with the mounting depth of the factory enclosure. I read where it is 4-4.25 with the inside support fins snapped off... so noticing how much taller the factory amp is than the factory sub, how much clearance do you have from the grill to the sub?

the reason I ask, is I would really like to use a trim ring to increase the depth and add a JL Audio 8w3v3 which has a mounting depth of 4.63 in. Anyone else done this? I have an Alpine V12 M-605 that I plan to put under the passenger seat to push it. I am not knocking the 8W1v2-4, but I already have this amp and want to be able to use it as it is a beast! I had it pushing a single infinity kappa perfect 12 in my 98 limited and it gets the job done!

I did read yours which is the one that I found out to be really helpful. I have not yet seen the one using the 8w3. I will keep searching for it. If you run across it please post. I am trying to figure out the minimum trim ring depth I can get away with as well trying to figure out if this one will work?

I also read the one where the guy installed the kicker comp as well which was really helpful. I did everything in my 1998 as it was easy to get all the panels off, but my 08 is immaculate and I do not want to scuff any of the plastic or break any of it so again, thanks for the details! very helpful

Pages 6-8 of my write-up have info on the 8w3. Not a ton of info, but it is discussed. Philromero215 one of the guys that have used the 8w3. I want to say I remember someone else doing it as well, it may be buried in there somewhere.

thanks. I also found a w3 for sale in the factory enclosure in the classified from a guy who liked 12's better, so now I know it can be done and made to fit. Thanks for the help!
