replacing taillight bulb trouble

Hey all, I have searched, and read about 20 different lighting threads, nothing I can find explains this to me, it might be buried in someone's build thread but the search function didn't find anything for me.

I replaced the reverse lights with some LED's since the stock ones were a little disappointing, I wanted to do the taillight also, but I can't get the bulb out. The reverse bulb you just twist and pull. The break/tail light seems to be more difficult. Anyone know the trick to getting it out?

Looks like a connector has to come out. Have you checked the bulb section in your owners manual? Also helps to include year/model of vehicle.

I'm having trouble getting the white part off, after that I am pretty sure I can get to the bulb, but I don't want to break it and I can't see an obvious way to disconnect it. 2016 trail.

Just looked in the manual, looks like there isn't a light there. It only lists the reverse and the turn light. So I guess it doesn't come off?

The tail lights/brake lights on the 2014+ are already LED. The only incandescents in the tail light assembly are the reverse lights and the turn signal.

ha, well no, I knew they were led, I wanted to see if any of the aftermarket LEDs were brighter like they claim. What I didn't know was that I couldn't change the Toyota ones.. I guess I was just taking my failure for what it was without bothering to clarify.
On the other hand I do plenty of stupid things so that wouldn't have been far off...
