Replacing the backup camera

Last week the backup cam on my wife's 2012 Limited started to only work intermittently. This week it doesn't even show up on the nav screen when in reverse. The dealership said the power and wiring seem fine so they are recommending to replace the camera unit for $875. I searched on this but can't seem to find anyone who has replaced the OEM backup camera themselves. Has anyone tried this? I've got to imagine I can get the part and install it myself for way cheaper than 900 bucks. Maybe even go the aftermarket route? Thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

You can definitely 100% do this for less than half the cost the dealer quoted you with a new factory camera. If you want to go the aftermarket route check out Antyime Backup Camera | View your Backup Camera at any time!.

Aftermarket camera will be much better and cheaper. Just note that ours are 6 volt. Some 12 volt cameras do work.
