They do have very high resale values but no one in their right mind would pay more for a used item that they can get brand new for cheaper. Only thing this happens on seems to be toast with Jesus on it and celebrity panties but on those items my original comment stands "in their right mind"
If you can find someone to give you 36k I would take them up on the offer and go get a new one from the dealer (assuming all taxes, title, etc are taken into account)
NADA is what most banks use to assess the value of a vehicle for collateral.
But at the end of the day they are guidlines at best. The economy, availability, environmental conditions, price of gas, etc determine what your vehicle is worth.
I sold my 04 Corolla the same day I put it up for sale for $400 more than my asking price (based on KBB value) because I had 5 people call to see it within 3 hours.
My 93 Honda CRX Si took close to half a year to sell because it had a rust spot and was a 2 seater.
I rarely trade in a vehicle and in my experience have learned that "book" values are pretty much useless except as a starting point.
Where do you put yours up for sale?
Not that I would do it, but I paid $34.7k out the door on my '15 SR5P. Sticker was just over $38k. Kbb says I could sell it privately for $36k with my current mileage at 10k? If that's the case that is fantastic.

$34,700 out the door? That sounds really cheap. Did you have any trade worked into that deal?
Volume dealer near the end of the cycle, more lucrative to give it away than sell it for more? Who knows black art voodoo bs that car dealers seem follow.
Why is that so hard to believe. I walked out the door right at 37k and my MSRP was near 43k on the Pro trim mode and yes that with tags and stuff
