Reverse Camera and Monitor question

I have the factory JBL head unit, without the display. I am not really interested in switching out the head unit, so that is pretty much off the table. I was curious if anybody knows anything about the Reverse camera and monitor kits. There are so many out there that i am not sure where to even start looking. Thanks in advance.

Have you thought of replacing JUST the mirror with one of those Gentex rear view mirror cameras?

I just picked one up for my DD Honda Civic. My Civic doesn't have homelink, but maybe your 4R already has them on your overhead console? Anyway, these are a bit pricey, but look totally stock. They take NTSC video by the way.

Here is a mirror, but with the Homelink buttons you might not be even need. The mirror also dims, has a compass heading readout and apparently an outside temp reading (also, you won't need it). The model with dimming (they all dim) and the camera is on fleabay for about $260-270 not including the camera. Looks like an easy install.

That's pretty cool. I'll have to look into that. Would be much cleaner than having some sort of display on the dash. Thanks

Here's another idea. From the website I found it from, it costs about $225.

Backup Camera | Visor | Monitor | License Plate

Not sure how good it is as a visor, but as visor AND monitor, it's a cool idea. Whatever, I'd give the Gentex a more serious look only because many car companies use them (reliable).

You might want to open up to the idea of considering a new head unit. I got a decent Pioneer touch screen unit,(ebay daily deal) the necessary adapters for JBL and steering wheel, and a sony back up cam(ebay daily deal again). All together it was about $350 which is pretty close to the mirror or other alternatives. Plus, you get the added bonus of Ipod/mp3 integration and bluetooth hands free calling. It also looks 99% factory, minus the tiny pioneer logo on the bottom of it. The black USB angled cord to the left feeds directly into my glove compartment so I can leave my Ipod connected all the time and even lock it if I want to. I even changed the background on the head unit to a toyota background and the colors of the buttons to orange.
