[Rewrite] How to install phone control and voice command switches

I ordered it from http://www.gulfcoasttoyota.com/.However, they only had one in stock and apparently was the only dealer in the nation with one in stock.
I have someone actually installing everything right now as I type including a new head unit, backup camera, microphone, all new speakers, sound deadening in the doors, running cables from the head unit to the center console, a new alarm, and a remote start. If ti goes well, I will give you his information. He does it onsite which is nice.

The install is taking longer than expected. I ended up having to custom fabricate some 6x9 to 6.5 speaker adapters for the front speakers:
And the alarm and remote start was giving the installer troubles. He is coming back tomorrow to finish. Nice enough guy for sure.
Also, sorry to be a bother. I just drove the 4runner at night for the first time. The right side audio controls light up. The left side phone controls do not.
Shouldn't the new buttons also light up orange? Does this mean I did not install it properly? I dont see how. The plug only goes in one way....

Yes its not installed properly. And if the lights don't light up then buttons will also not function.
I had the same problem but I got the problem fixed at the dealership.

Good to hear that. Now PAC unit has to be reprogrammed for all the left and right hand buttons to operate properly.

So what did the dealer do exactly?
So just push in until you see the lights? The "bridge ribbon cable" part is pretty fragile, I just pushed until it clicked into place (at least that is how I remember it).

I think it is the oxidation and dirt on contact pins since 2006 which prevents the connection with ribbon cable. So Clean the contacts and push click the ribbon cable.

FYI:
Kenwood radios dont have voice options
Pioneer radio some have voice options.
You can remap the buttons to do something else
My three new buttons
answer button = answer
hang up = band change
voice = mute

I lurk here mostly, but thought I would post because this information is tough to find in one place. This thread was invaluable to adding "press-to-talk" to my 05 Limited.
I bought the parts listed in this thread to add the buttons to the steering wheel. You do have to give a little extra effort to ensure the ribbon cable seats to make positive contact. Button installation just took a few minutes.
I initially had my JVC KW-AV61BT head unit connected to JBL system through PAC TATO harness. No complaints with audio quality, but it wouldn't work correctly with Metra ASWC-1 steering wheel harness. No matter what I tried, the buttons were mapped incorrectly, and manual mapping would not work.
I replaced the PAC TATO with the Metra TYTO-1 harness, and the left steering wheel controls mapped automatically. The final step to get the right side (OE Bluetooth) buttons were in the instructions. All works perfectly.
Often people ask about lag: with my configuration, there is absolutely no lag using the steering wheel controls.
Lastly, for those using an iPhone, yes, when you press the factory "press-to-talk" steering wheel button, Siri is activated and works perfectly.
So glad I got my steering wheel controls back!!!

Compatibility with USA Spec BT35???
I was thinking of getting the USA Spec BT35-Toy bluetooth module to install in my 04 Sport with JBL. If possible, I would also like to install these steering wheel controls to the right side. Can any of you tell me if I would be able to program the BT35 to work with phone control steering wheel controls (buttons on right side of steering wheel)? Any input would be a big help. Thanks!

why? just buy a decent BT headunit with usb, hd radio, aux input ect. the 9 year old radio in there is about done.
The radio works fine, I've had no issues with it and am looking to keep the OEM look just want to had Bluetooth for phone calls.
