Rhino-Rack Install Write Up

I think I am getting ready to purchase one of these with the Backbone system. A couple of questions...

So, it for certain requires drilling with the Backbone? It seems like I read or heard it did not.

Has anyone mounted an LED light bar underneath the front of the rack? Trying to figure out what would fit there.

You ABSOLUTELY DO NOT drill the roof of your vehicle. You will drill the underside of the Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform to align the cross bars to the backbone rails. Very simple process.

The only pictures on this computer I have were from the night I started mounting things up and I took it for a quick test drive to check for wind noise in the rain. This is the smaller platform but it seems to fit really well, without a lot of overhang up front. A lightbar will fit under the rack up front but may interfere with the sunroof. I have a friend who has the same rack and the Rhino-Rack lightbar mounts holding a curved 30" bar under his.

Would there be any disadvantage to mounting a full length 84x49 rack if you dont plan on putting a RTT up?

Im finalizing a few things before pulling the trigger.

Hard to pass up this system with a 35% pro deal.

Here is my Rhino-Rack Pioneer Platform. I went with 3/4 length as a no drill compromise for extra storage but still gives me the use of my sunroof. The rack does not interfere with either the rear shark antenna or the sunroof opening. Pics are bare and then loaded for a recent Overlanding trip. No change in MPG or wind noise over the standard roof rack.

I would imagine that the platform would need to be drilled. The Pioneer Platform is universal, it's the Backbone system that is vehicle specific. So you just have to drill the crossbars to align with the Backbone mounting points.

Installed the wider 49" x 76" on 6 of the lower (2-1/4" high) legs and set the Alucab gen 3 and Shadow-Awn on it. Thanks for the write up, helped me choose the Rhino-Rack!

I’ve also been running the 79 x 46” rhino rack on the backbone system and love it. I’m actually looking to sell if anyone is interested. $800 for rack with the backbone, $600 for just the platform. Located in Athens, Ga PM if interested

Thanks for the pics. I’m thinking about buying the 3/4 rack too. However, I’m concerned with how much of the sunroof is covered. I’ve searched all over to find a picture of the overhang from inside the vehicle.

If you have time, would you mind posting pictures from inside and on top of the vehicle near the sunroof?
