Rigid J40 Grill Mod on 2013 Trail

So I decided to undertake the rigid grill insert with the rigid SR20" LED light bar. I have to admit, I like the 2014-2016 product a little better because the upper insert on the 2010-2013 is a whole lot of grill, not a lot of light bar. That said, I did some searching online to find a vintage Toyota J40 emblem that fits perfectly in that big, blank, upper grill space. Couple of things:

1) Use this to remove the stock upper grill - http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/84880-how-guide-grillcraft-upper-lower-grill.html
It's a bit tricky. Focus on step 5 and 6, that is where things are no longer intuitive
2) You can leave a little of the native black mesh around the stock molding, it is hidden by the thick sides of the rigid insert
3) Put the light bar in last, the grill flexes a little to settle in the right place and you can bend the prongs for the light bracket to accommodate at the end
4) Put the emblem on last, same reason, I am using 3m tape and will let you know how it goes. I had to grind off the bolt channels on the emblem because they made it seat uncentered.

I like it. Looks really clean.

I've also got the BudBuilt hidden winch set-up. The only thing I would do different is black out all the chrome bolt heads. Too boy racer-ish for an old fart like me.

Thanks. I agree the bolt heads are a little blingy. I probably will black them out eventually.

Well, with a couple of folks saying they would black out the chrome bolt heads I wanted to post a pic of what that would look like for reference. The bolts actually have nuts on the other side, so I imagine they are removable and therefore replaceable (so you don't have to spray and touch up repetitively. I think I am going to live with them for a while, and then make a decision (plus my wife likes them ). Below posted is:
1) the grill currently
2) the photoshop of things blacked out
3) the grill currently with pan out of the whole truck
4) the photoshop with whole truck

I agree - I was going to say blacked out looks better but changed my mind after seeing the wheels.

I would bet that the Black Oxide, Alloy Steel IS going to rust!
Anodized or stainless is the way to go!

You've been busy! Looks great, the chrome bolts will match with the wheels. I find the all black can be too much sometimes, have you thought about doing the bolts in dark grey/MGM?
