RIMs and Running Boards -2011 4runner

Hello Everyone!

I'm currently debating giving my 2011 4Runner and meaner look, I want to add the factory running boards, and possibly get some black rims w/ crome accent thinking about going with 20s. Any suggestions on where I can go for both?

Also, I'm in Southern California if you know of any local spots.

I have the factory boards on my 2011 and I don't think they make it more rugged. I'm pretty sure others on here would suggest sliders instead. As far as wheels, there is too many to choose from but I really like the XD Hoss

what's up man. I was in the same boat as you a few years ago. I wanted running boards, although i wanted them because my girl is 5 ft and had trouble getting in and out of the truck! I decided i wanted the factory ones, while i like them and i think they look good, they are pretty much non functional. I wear size 9 and can barely get enough of my toes/front of my foot on it to feel secure on the running board. And if i needed to reach something on top of my truck, the running boards are worthless, i'm better off standing on my tires or getting a ladder.

Do what you want, but, i figured i would take the time to take photos of my truck so you can decide what you want. If i could do it all over again, i'd find a different set of running boards like the Dee Zee brand or i'd get sliders, like some of the other dudes on here.

Factory running boards are not the way to go for a "meaner" look. In my opinion, 20" wheels are also a step away from a "meaner" look.

On the running board note, your "meaner" options will be sliders or the N-Fab steps. The factory boards are overpriced and as Johnny mentioned, not very useful. If it is in fact a full length step option you are interested in, search some of the other nerf bar options out there like Westin or Steelcraft. My album has some good pics of the 4" Westin nerf bars and the N-Fab option.

On the wheel topic...there are plenty to choose from, so I will not even try to make a suggestion here. Best thing is to look at all the photos on this forum and go from there. I do prefer 17" or even 18" wheels for a "meaner" look. I originally wanted the XD Hoss myself, but am leaning more toward the Method MR301 or Black Rhino Imperial lately. I also must add that tires are more important for the "mean" look and safety/functionality of the vehicle. Plasti-Dip your current wheels black and get some more aggrassive 33" tires and call it a day!

LOL. Why the bat? Just wanted to say thanks for posting those pics. I for sure will not be looking for OEM running boards for my new Limited after seeing your pics.

haha. There was once a time a long time ago when i wish i had that little mini-bat. Picked it up for like 10 bucks, it's a softball bat, i think. I don't know, i guess I've kept it in my trucks for all these years.

Get the Red one, it's the cheapest out of all the colors and its SUPER bright. Best part is it fits perfect in between the driver seat and the center console.

Have TE running boards for sale....

They definitely give it a meaner look than the standard chrome plated running boards. You would need to trim the rocker trim though, but should then bolt right on
