Swapped 890s for superflex coils
Today I removed the 890s and put in Toytec superflex coils.
I had the 890s for about a month. Compared to the 861s I had before, I liked the way the 890s rode (very much actually) but the issue I had with them was that when the rear suspension was flexed, the spring was no longer held in with compression. It was possible for the spring to fall out!
The issue is that the OME 890 spring has a very short free height (aka the height of the spring with no weight on it). What I needed was a spring with a much taller free height and close to the same spring rate. The 861s I had never had this issue, they just rode terrible. So I knew I wanted around the same free height as the 861.
OME 890 : 190 lbs/in - 16.7in free height
OME 891 : 210 lbs/in - 16.5in free height
Superflex: 210 lbs/in - 19.5in free height
OME 861 : 250 lbs/in - 19.2in free height
As you can see, the superflex almost fits the bill perfectly, spring rate of the 891 with the free height of the 861.
Here you can see the 890 spring with the axle flexed. No compression, it would fall out on the trail. Ignore the disconnected shock, I will soon be extending those (hence this investigation)
Next mod is rust removal haha

Toytec has added a rubber spring sleeve to aid with coil slap issues people have.

I love my Superflex! That said, why should we ignore the disconnected shock? Wouldn't that have held the coil in place? Or are you running longer shocks than the shocks pictured?
I was talking to a "specialist"(as the sales guy referred to him as) at MetalTech yesterday, and after I told him I have Superflex, he said "I can out-flex Superflex all day with my 861 coils. I can drop my 35 clear out of my wheel well". Um, okay? That has more to do with shock length than it does coils, but I guess you win?

That shock is severely limiting my downtravel, soon I am going to replace it with a much longer one. That is why.
If you don't consider how the shock limits travel, superflex and 861 should have the same flex limits due to the fact that they have the same free height.
That being said, your shocks should be the limit of your travel in both directions (with a bump stop to protect the shock in compression) so the shock is really what defines your flex limits assuming the spring doesn't fall out like mine were.

So, you're able to run a longer shock without up-travel suffering? Do you currently have the 33-187174 on the rear?
I think that shock is about as long as I can go, and still be able to stuff the 315.

I have loads of uptravel because I have the upper mount relocated, I can run a much longer shock than you can in the stock mounting location. See the first page for a breakdown of what I have and links to where I talked about it.
