Great work!! Glad I could be of inspiration was up against the same task as you when looking for the same electrical solution. I've actually made the bracket I use on my rig available on my website. Figured someone else would one day need one and I had wished it was for sale when I made mine hahah. Super clean work man. My only question, by extending the bracket all the way up to the firewall, are you having any issues reaching around and pulling wires through in the future? Hopefully there's enough clearance to get a hand in there!

Well, you could of posted that last week. lol The hood still clears when the cover is on the Blue Sea box?

I ended up just mounting mine to the OEM fuse box lid. Put a 100A breaker and 100A relay behind that battery bolted an acrylic mount I made then bolted to the fender well. Also put 5 30A relays under a rain guard I made bolted the the firewall directly behind the plenum. Will see how hot they get but I'm pretty sure I'll still be within operating temps of them. Really nice to see how others are going about the same thing.

600A @ 5 minutes. Yeah that'll work. Looks like it's a little under 4" x 4" square and just over 3" tall so it'll fit where I was gonna mount that disconnect. Great, more stuff to buy. Anyone in the market for a cheap disconnect? lol

Perfect! I do recall seeing that now when I was looking for a place to mount my solenoid. Of course it would be on [MENTION=116387]Unner[/MENTION] s rig. He's a perfectionist! It shows in everything he does.

Awesome work. From experience. I have the same wire loom like you have. That braided sleeve. And mine to goes trough that grommet. Becareful for a wet carpet under your feet. Water will go down the windshield. Drip "directly" on top of those wires and travel down the wire inside the truck. Because that wire look, even though it's awesome. It doesn't seal around the grommet properly. Because the wire is under it. And the wire loom is open, as in has pores. So it will get onto the wire loom and travel down the wire. Just becareful. I fixed mine with A LOT LF RTV. LIKE A LOT. to seal the wire loom

This is a very timely post! You're a great mystery solver. So with all this rain we've been having in Portland/SW Washington (the last time it rained like this was in 92) I noticed some additional water on my drivers weathertech mat right next to the door. I chalked it up to just getting in and out with wet feet but something just didn't seem right. It seemed to be a bit more. My carpet wasn't wet at all. BINGO! What you just described explains everything. This is a huge input to this thread as many may try to tidy up their wiring similar to mine. This weekend I'm going to take a look at options. Right now I'm leaning towards a large piece of heat shrink instead of the RTV, especially where it goes through the firewall. This is a real plus for having a Deutsch connector on the end. That disconnect is okay, but please don't try to take 350Amps through it, lol.

I have seen a lot of dual battery threads and like [MENTION=116467]Rock_Rat[/MENTION], engine I have no room for a second battery and been playing with ideas of where to go. ...

Love the build we should meet up sometime, but need to wait 3 weeks for me to finish the last two projects haha.

I can wait three weeks! I plan on heading down that way and meeting up with a bunch of the guys for a weekend before we do the Oregon BDR in July. Right now I'm just trying to finish up some things on the rig before I head out to the Overland Expo in May. You're bumper is looking great BTW! Wish I had those mad welding skills! I'm still thinking about a dual battery but with all of the great portable chargers available today, I'm not so sure if it's needed. For $100 I can have a quality compact charger tucked away nicely in the back. This will depend on how long I plan on staying out and how far from civilization. However, I can justify a small inverter for a laptop, drone, camera, and video batteries. I'm on the fence about both.

Yup, I do have one. I like the added safety of not having large hot wires running across the front of the truck.

Thanks Matt. Just hold off on the Techflex going through the firewall. As [MENTION=99565]kolelt[/MENTION] pointed out, because it's not sealed, water can migrate through the braded loom and run down the wires. I'm going to address that this weekend. I'm leaning towards a large piece of heatshrink.

I thought about the over land expo, that's the one in Arizona right? My dad and I have done 3 years of over landing now. The first taught us a lot. .lol. I'm going to sound un-educated, but what's the BDR in july? I want to go to the overland expo, but probably next year due to lack of money and 4/5 overland trips planned this year and money put away for those. I haven't had any power problems yet I run a go pro, chargers for that, tablet, phone and no freezer yet as we have done 7 days with just coolers ands haven't experience any issues, but we know 7 days is the max with just coolers. ..

Depending on my conditions, we always need to be with in a few days of. ...store/communication. I would love to do some meet ups and get some more people to go overlanding with me. Know several weekend routes and week long ones also....but side tracked.

Unfortunately I don't think a shrink wrap will seal it. Again, because the wire room has basically little openings. So water can still get under it and travel down the wire. You basically need to RTV and make sure you push the RTV onto the wire loom so it seals the pores. Better yet not to have that wire loom going through the grommet. Maybe just use the wire loom up to the grommet. It's hard for me to explain what I mean so I'm sorry . But long story short, the wire. Also if you use shrink wrap. It will seal up to where the shrink wrap ends. Then water can get under the loom again and travel down the wires.

I installed a aux fuse box under the rear seat where the OEM jack goes. Ran 5 wires to the back and 5 to the front. I just tap into them and that's all. This was my only solution. For installin bussmann 10relay box

Almost exactly what I did.

I ran a 1/0 awg wire to my blue sea fuse box. Have all my general wiring coming from here (back up lights, chargers and etc). I really like how it turned out, I do need to clean it up but I'm 50% sure (as I don't use the seat anymore in the back for over a year) I'm going to remove it and build my over land storage and such. My. ....vehicle is unique from mosts so. ..design is. ....difficult, lol

The Overland Expo is the one in Flagstaff AZ this year. There's quite a few from the PDX Overlanders heading out there. That's coming up in May. The BDR's are the "Backcountry Discovery Route's." Initially started by the dual-sport riders on bikes but open to 4x4's as well. I did the Washington BDR last year and want to do the Oregon BDR this year. I've got a thread started on it here: Oregon Back Country Discovery Route. We're looking at the week of July 4th through the weekend. Small group possibly doing Route 5 or another variance.

I bought those almost three years ago. Have done every route but 6,which we are doing on father's day weekend. Route 5 was incredible rough road on section 2-4. Couldn't believe how wash boarding and plain tore up. Now this was last year in August 2016.

I have taken most of the papersheets and have converted them to gpx and loaded into my back county navigator. I personally love this program and have tried a bunch and haven't been happy with them. Further in my build that you should see where we ran into 5 or more feet of snow on route 3 at the highest elevation. Broke my tow strap but otherwise we made it through. We easily did a solid 12 hours of trail maintenance during the trip and saw a small bear also, lol. We also ran into a small area of where some one deliberately set a fire in the woods, fire teams showed up before it got too big but they asked us if we had been in the area. Found out later they had a good idea who ended up doing it. Glad they found them and not us. ...

If you do plan to do all of route 5, let me know the exact times (and okay with another person. ...) and if you want to do one of our trips let me know. At this time I have an empty seat for Ouray. ..all you would need is your own sleeping I am paying for fuel

Yeah, those work great for me due to the ability to get into a real road in less than a day or two if. .nothing major happens. We also carry a SAT messenger,ems device that people use back packing.

I'll go hit up the other page you linked, does Washington have a site like oregon for discovery?

Hopefully it's your grommet that's leaking. My windshield is leaking & my rug is getting wet behind the gas pedal. Only on heavy downpours & going through the car wash though. I guess I'm gonna learn how to pull a windshield! LOL I'm sick of this, "maintenance before mods"! I'm falling so far behind on the fun stuff!

Hopefully it's your grommet that's leaking. My windshield is leaking & my rug is getting wet behind the gas pedal. Only on heavy downpours & going through the car wash though. I guess I'm gonna learn how to pull a windshield! LOL I'm sick of this, "maintenance before mods"! I'm falling so far behind on the fun stuff!

Mine is leaking exactly where the grommet is and since that was last area I worked I'm hoping that's where it's from. I'll find out tomorrow. I hear you on the maintenance. I'm actually caught up finally except the SC but I'm back and forth on that now before a big trip to Flagstaff and Utah. So tempting but my practical side says don't risk it just in case...If I do, I might just put the original pulley back on without any fuel mods. Still thinking...

I have some yard work to do but I think I have some time to begin working on your LCA's tomorrow. You want me to cut and press the bushings out before I ship them? I have the sawzawl with the diablo blade and that's half the battle.

Guaranteed it's leaking through the wire loom. You'll see. Pull the carpet back a little spray water on the wire and watch it. Just like my video. Then feel areouns the wire inside the truck with ur fingers. Around the one with the wire loom
