they bolt to body & frame? what happens to the body support when they get hit? can you even use them as a jack point?

I have e-mailed Rocky Road about using the sliders as a point of contact for jacking, and they said it would be no problem. The following is their reply to my e-mail.

"Yes, that should be the most basic thing a set of true rock sliders can do. It our kits are engineered to handle a full drop-down body slam onto a rock, they can easily handle a controlled easy push up from a Hi-lift. No problem at all.

I will throw in that using our Superslider kits makes this much easier since you have that outer bar which sets away form the vehicle a little more. Make a nice stable mounting and hook point for the jack to latch into."

Sorry for the delay withthe pics. I wasn't getting any messages about activity in this thread. I don't have many images of just the sliders. Here are a couple I took, after installing the sliders, and a few from the road.

I don't have any installation pics. I did the job by my self, and didn't have time for pics.

Tips: Use jack stands (with padded tops) to hold the bars up, as you are trying to fit them. Drilling the holes was easy, installing the bolts was not easy. I didn't want any slop in the holes, that would cause trouble later. I left the plastic body panel in place, and drilled through it. It could be trimmed around each hole, if you like.

You want bar (C) to press tightly against the rocker panel. This is the only way there will be room for the bolts, and have enough meat in the pinch weld to survive trail usage. Also, this is where the load is distributed to the body, if you come down on a rock, or lift with a jack. If there is a gap above bar (C), the load will be pressing up on the bolts alone, and will likely damage the pinch weld, as the forces are concentrated in these few locations.

1) Drill all holes in pinch weld, as undersized pilots first.
2) Then drill and fit the bolts at the ends of the pinch weld (rocker panel).
3) Then drill and bolt the legs to the frame (B).
4) If you can, drill out the remaining holes through the rocker (A)and adjacent bar (C). A 90 degreel drill motor helps, as there isn't much room behind the rocker panel. You may be able to get a long drill in there, from the outboard side of the rocker, through the gaps in the slider tubes (maybe).

Do you by chance have a straight on side shot of your rig with the sliders on?

Looking down from front to rear. Narrow space for a step, with the door closed.

With door open. This is the best way to stand on them.

On the trail in Death Valley.

With some mud. You can see, they don't stick out too far.

the work out great so far, i broke them in on the past weekend trip and they held up well, they provide a good surface area too, i added skateboard grip tape for the front passengers to ease getting in, although my girlfriends side is already scratched up due to her heels, ill need to add more tape hah

How are you liking the sliders? Do they give you a good surface to step on to get to the roof, etc.?

It is a bit narrow for climbing on, because it is tucked fairly close to the body. It is easier with the door open; but then you can just stand on the floor.

I picked up a wide patch of skateboard tape too. Cut strips from it, for the top of the sliders. Works great! It was not installed on the bars, when I took the first pictures, looking down on the bars.

HARDER TO INSTALL THAN MY LIFT

WOW! What a freaking crazy hard installation. First of all, I am sure that I must have taken the sliders off and on the jack stands at least 100 times. The "steel tape" that they include was drilled wrong...or for some reason refused to co-operate with me while I was drilling my pinch seem. Oh, and the pinch seem bolts didn't allow me to align and drill my frame bolts.

After six whole hours of awesomeness, I finally got the sliders installed. (Mostly) I had to use just the frame bolts on the passenger side and only the two outer pinch seem bolts on the driver side.

When I called Rocky Road they told me the the pinch weld bolts are used to help with "downward" pressure, aka - stepping on them. I don't see how the four frame bolts are not strong enough that they need the additional 5 1/4" bolts attached to the what I would consider weak pinch seem.

I like the looks, but could have used a better way to install the sliders themselves. I might go back in a few months and weld them directly to the frame. In the meantime, I am happy with the final outcome and can't wait to test them off-road.

Whoa! That sounds like more of a hassle then it is worth. I'm actually contemplating getting Stubbs sliders, they are just North of me.

They are weld on, which is okay with me plus between the price of the sliders and having them powder coated they would still be cheaper then Shrockworks and about the same cost as Rocky Road.

Here are the ones that I'm looking at for $290
