Rolled on BML land, will insurance cover me?

Me and some friends went down to Moab over the weekend, and I rolled my runner. I got it towed back home, and I'm not sure what to do now. Will my insurance cover me, seeing as I was on BML land? I have USAA and can provide you guys with any other information.

It depends on the insurance policy you have and if they agreed to cover off-roading.
I specifically asked for off-road coverage with my policy. In my experience while shopping for insurance, most companies did cover it. Until you ask your agent though, none of us will know for sure.

I had some damage at a dry lake bed and they covered the damage, but it went down as an accident on my insurance record. It will affect your rates.

It all depends on if your coverage extended for that kind of activity. I know I paid extra for off highway coverage.

As others have said, it depends on your policy. I have found that if the trail has a state designated name, it can be considered a road. Forest service roads and such are usually covered.

Since there probably wasn't a police report, the accident may have happened as you were leaving the road to a trail..... ( just saying)

I'd shy away from misstating where the accident occurred. The last thing you want to do is to perpetrate a fraud and make the situation a lot worse.

Tell them you were "offhighway", not "offroad". To some companies those are two different things and it could make the difference in coverage.

So no police report filed? That may be an issue, but the thing you will have to do is call them. As long as you weren't doing anything illegal you should be fine.

I have been a USAA member for over 30 years, they're a great company and offer great claims service.

Good you have Usaa. I've heard they will cover. Don't say off road. Dirt road. Let us know how it goes. A lot of us also have USAA
