[MENTION=16474]leftyguns21[/MENTION], I'm about to pull the trigger on the Mount Ranier CVT. Looks like you have it mounted on a Gobi Stealth roof rack is that right? If so how does it fit on the vehicle and any helpful hints since you purchased it? Did you go with Summit Series? Thank You.

Here is my Rainier on my Gobi with the Amex deployed. I have spent at least 20 nights in it so far this year and have had zero issues.

Don't use the factory cross bars, flip the mounting brackets on the tent 90 degrees and use the factory side rails. They are plenty strong and bolt to your roof just like aftermarket racks. No issues doing this with my ARB RTT.

Thanks for the advice! So just to clarify, you removed your factory cross bars completely before bolting the tent to the side rails?

Any ideas if this is just the ARB RTT this works with, or possibly others? I've been looking at CVT and Smittybuilt most recently.

I left my factory cross bars on since they actually sit below the side rails. You can remove them if you want, but they won't touch your RTT if you leave them on.

You can do this with the Smittybilt, CVT, Tepui, etc. since they all have the same basic design. Most of these tents with this design are built in China and only have slight design differences from what I have read. The quality varies, but the overall design is nearly identical.

On my particular tent (2+ person size) you have to shorten the RTT mounting rails when you turn them since the base is not a perfect square. You simply remove the tent mounting rails, flip them 90 degrees, and re-mount them after shortening them. If you purchase the tent new, I believe you have to install the mounting rails anyway. I purchased my tent used so they were already mounted.

I did the same thing with turning the aluminum cross bars on the tent and mounting to the factory rails. I actually didn't cut mine down I just left them factory length because eventually I plan to have an aftermarket rack. The extra bit is actually ok and doesn't make any noise. I like having the extra bit because it gives me something to hang on to when I jump up top to unstrap the ladder. They don't stick out too far or look bad in my opinion but to each their own.

Yea, you could leave it. I don't have any plans of mounting it any other way and I figured if I do decide to change them back, the tracks are cheap.

Just the 4 posts slide into the slots and it is a backpacking jungle hammock.

Check out my "build" thread #7 and #10 linked in my signature line. It is the only thing I have built yet on the truck, everything else is things I have seen throughout the forum.

So far I have only test drivin' it in the back yard but from what I can tell at this point is it is solid, and we can go tandem or solo.

Here are a couple of Rain Fly options, but they will change when I get the ARB mounted up too... always a work in progress!

I have them on my Frontrunner. After initial setup they are worth the $ IMO. Literally put our CVT Mt. Rainier on in less than 2 minutes.

Got to try out our CVT Mt. Rainier Summit Series over Labor Day and again escaping Irma. Very impressed so far. Plenty of room for my wife and I and our two kids (2 and 5). Mounted to Frontrunner slimline ii 3/4 using their new quick release mounts (which as I posted above are worth the $ IMO). Setup in less than 10 minutes in a full on thunderstorm. Kept us dry as a bone. Never slept so well in a tent before.

Thanks. These are the best I got now. I can take more once we take it off. After talking to Frontrunner you can mount below for lower profile (literally flat with the top of the rack). I chose to mount above (about 2" above rack slats). Although not as low profile I feel with the mounts sitting on the rack as opposed to being held on by just the channel nuts it was better for spreading out the weight, as it is already a large/heavy tent and we sleep 4 in it. Frontrunner did say that it can support up to 660 lbs (weight rating for he rack) mounting below. If I had a smaller tent...i.e. FrontRunner, 23zero Litchfield etc. and only slept 2 I would have mounted under the rack.

Honestly in person it doesn't look as high as in the pictures, and I do like having the extra room under the tent to either mount flat objects or just to get my hands in for any adjustments.
