Ruined '06 Back Bumper in SF...Need Body Shop

Guys,

Parked my car overnight in an enclosed parking garage, came back in the morning, and noticed that my back bumper was completely mutilated by some San Francisco jack*ss.

The wounds are pretty deep, and I want it done right so I'm gonna have to suck it up and get it done. Looks like the same thing happened to T4R06 in CT, (see picture from his post below):

Are there any body shops that anyone knows in SF? I figure replacing the bumper is going to cost around $600.

You can try Don's Auto Body. Everyone that I talked to unanimously agreed they do the best work. Their prices tend to be on expensive side, but you get what you pay for.

I think bumper replacement may cost more than $600. I got a quote for over $600 when they were just going to refinish the front bumper on my Camry. But it could be possible, my friend got his rear Camry bumper replaced at Sunny's for $500. But their painting skills isn't all that.

If you're an SF native you might want to wait until you gather another couple of inevitable scrapes before repairing it. This is the city of professional bumper scrapers, after all.

I would go to SF Toyota and get their opinion. I've had dealerships in the past suggest alternative body shops. The last bodywork insurance job I had done on my Jeep (remove dent and repaint hood) my insurance company recommended a place on 9th Ave. in the Sunset - Pierre's.

I ended up using the Jeep dealership. Bad move. They took twice as long as promised and the nicely repainted hood was scratched again before I even collected it -- looked like someone sat on it.

I really dont think you need to replace the rear bumper.

I had the front bumper fixed by my neighbor who owns a body shop.

My boss had an "old mans moment" and literally backed into my front bumper when 1 minute before I told him I was behind him,
and boom.

Thankfully he didnt crack any lenses in the front.

From what my neighbor says is that they melt the plastic bumper and remold it. Then sand and fill it in with a poxy, resand then prime,paint, then clear coat it.

The job came out excellent and cost $500, but being my boss did the damage, my neighbor cut the cost in 1/2 so I wouldnt be on
fallen grace with my boss.

european motorcars here in CT did an excellent job on my bumper. get a quote first to all body shops you know there in SF then find at least the cheaper ones. and also go for the pricematch.

got my bumper fixed for $250

Thanks for the advice, guys.

Knowing that this repair wasn't going to be cheap, I headed down to the scene of the crime a few days ago with a camera and a measuring tape. Sure enough, the BMW 745i that parks behind me had damage to its opposite fender - right at 32", where mine was. With this irrefutable evidence, the guy with the BMW offered to pay for all the repairs...yes, all $640 worth.

Got the 'Runner back from the body shop today (Putnam in Burlingame did it in 24 hours!) and it sure looks great.

Learned a few lessons here:
1) Forget insurance; track down the guy who did it!
2) All else equal, it's good to park in front of an expensive car; and
3) The 'Runner's a helluva lot more solid than the Bimmer! :biggrin2:

Rear Ended While Parked

yup, it just happen to me today. My T4R was parked in the parking lot of a Smart & Final store, all of a sudden my alarm pager went off, ran outside to find a lady and her car in the rear of my T4R.

Found out the driver a a catholic nun, she was very shaken cause of the accident, so I just took her insurance info and found out the car was not hers but the priest from her church.

Long story short, I talked to a friend that has a shop said he can order the rear center and left side bumper covers at cost for and insall for a small fee. So I decided not to file a claim on this, and chock it up to christmas faith test.
