i had similar damage done to my bumper while getting work done at the dealer. when i checked to see how much it would cost to get it fixed i was told that they would need to order a new bumber and paint it. i got a second, then a third opinion - all three body shops came back saying that they would not try to repair it because the paint would just chip off - it was replace it or nothing.
finally i spoke to the service manager and asked him to take care of it, since it was their fault. not surprisingly, his body shop "repaired" it. that was over a year ago. since then all the paint has chipped off, has been repainted, and chipped off once again. each time the bodyshop does a worse job, there is more overspray, and i am more disappointed.
the moral of the story, if you are going to get it done, get it done right.

Unfortunately, those scratches look like they're down to the primer. That means the bumper needs to be repainted. Otherwise you'll be using touch up paint for a large area, which will look terrible.

Some of the bigger scratches look down to the plastic. A body shop will have to refinish the bumper, touch-up paint wouldn't look good.
Try and talk to your dealer, my dealer has a mobile unit that comes out and repaints bumpers on their used cars. That's usually about a $100-200 vs. a body shop's refinishing which is $500+. My sales rep has used them for his Camry's bumper with good results.

Doncha hate that... nimrods who think "hey, it's only a bumper" and proceed to grind their POS car into yours when trying to park. Happens all the time here in SF. Just cuz they're called bumpers, doesn't mean people have the right to casually bump them!
Unfortunately Toyota seems to have designed the new t4R with perhaps the most vulnerable bumbers. Painted plastic that sticks out far from the car might be great for suburban driveways and crash testing but is utterly useless when matched up against other cars on the streets, especially those with metal bumpers.
I am considering at least a front bull bar, but that it would add about 4 inches of length to an already-long truck, making street parking even harder. As for rear guards, most I've seen would do noting to protect against the "ooops I didn't leave enough room when pulling my truck out of a space behind this nice 4Runner" scrapes high up on the corners of the rear bumper.
It's almost worth buying a metal off-roading bumper just to punish the nimrods who try to mess with my truck when parking!

AH, SF parkers. Got me thinking about the time I stood at my window and watched a woman in a late-model BWM try to park in between two other cars. She had about two feet to spare in the space but still she reversed in and BAM hit the car behind. Then she pulls forward to straighten out and BAM hits the car in front. Then, still trying to straighten up, does exactly the same again, BAM BAM.
Two amazing things about this show of SF parking... firstly that she got out of her $35K BMW and didn't seem to care she's just used it as a bumper car, and, secondly that she didn't even make an attempt to try and avoid bumping other cars. Just BAM, BAM, BAM, BAM done. I bet she scraped the car in front when pulling out too.

Depending on the color of your 4runner and the color they spray and how well it matches you may not even notice. I'm getting black sprayed on my silver 4runner. It would look like the old gray cladding but black. I think it makes it look more aggressive. Also say goodbye to all the door dings and paint chips on the front.

Ya I live in Marin, and when I went to SF to my grandma's house I saw some lady parking and is just bumping cars pretty hard as she ll parks into her spot. I was like to my mom "That lady just hit the other persons car" and my mom just said "Ya, they just use their bumpers to park here" It would suck always living in the city.

That's how 95% of mofo's here in SF park, bump until you're in. @$$hole across the street backs into my other car setting off my alarm and still has the nerve to say he didn't hit me at all, because of how his B**ch Mobile Wagon X5 has parking sonars. Guess what @$$wipe, they don't work, because if it did, you wouldn't have made contact with my car.
With that said, I hope the group buy on the Strona bullbar is going to happen.
It won't save the corners, but hopefully it'll scare dumbf**ks that if they try to squeeze in and bump there's that shiny SS bar waiting.
Wouldn't it be sweet to have our trucks like Good Times', and have these boneheads' trunks and hoods under some hefty steal bumpers.

Don't bother with clear bra film, one rub, and it'll look like childhood days of putting Elmer's glue on hands and waiting for it to dry to peel off like skin. Someone with a Jeep had the whole thing sprayed with Line-X in green and it's dubbed "avacado."

....I agree with Gonzo when he says to do it right the first time....I work for a major North American automotive assembly plant as a paint supervisor and any fascia (bumper) repairs constitute a complete change of the damaged one. Plastic just can't be repaired to any kind of a acceptable quality level....good luck with the repairs....

just went to autobody shops, schaller estimated @ $299 2 days leaving my truck. then i went to european motorcars, just the same as schaller cost. but i show to them the quote of schaller and then they rematch it down to $250 plus they will work just within the day i will get my truck. is it a good deal or not?

A cheap and easy way to protect the rear would be to throw a hitch and ball in the towing reciever and leave it there. Then when someone thinks about running into the rear they get a hitch through their radiator instead of a little paint...
