"Rumble Strip" Transmission issue

I'm having the same issue, dropped my vehicle off at a local transmission shop, they had it for the day... I had to call to them find out if they figured anything out. The guy claims because I had transmission x vs. y they had never heard of what was going on with my vehicle RED FLAG...he was also very adamant about not doing a flush.

My next option was to call a Toyota Dealership and set something up for a tech to try to diagnose whats going on with the tranny. Good thing is that the service manager is an old coworker with one of my good friends. I'm waiting to set up and appointment for one day next week.

I can't wait to get this all rectified

"he was also very adamant about not doing a flush". Horse Manure. Guy doesn't know the Aisin 750 trannies. At all. Too many people report doing a drain/flush/completeFluidExchange with no problems. I know of other manufacture's trannies which can not take a flush. For example, I had a 1997 Grand Cherokee. The tranny was junk at 70K miles. Nobody recommend a flush, not even the guys in the forums. What a disgrace.

Anyway: Full fluid exchange and add the anti-shudder (the tube that is shown in this thread. There is anti-shudder from Lucas........... stay away from that!!!).

Recently purchased a 2008 4x4 V8 with 112k. No transmission service history. Within the past week I have started to notice this issue, now its happening a few times a day. Goes away as soon as I let off the gas, or downshift to 4th. I purchased a 3rd party "mechanical protection plan" (warranty) when I purchased the truck that says it covers torque convertor and transmission.

I called my usual dealer and they said the first course of action would be a full flush for $375 and that it is most likely a fluid issue. He also added that transmission issues usually arent covered under these warranties unless they are throwing an error code. I tend to trust this dealer more as the advisor seems to be very knowledgeable.

I called another local dealer who said they don't recommend doing a full flush, but a drain and fill for $160 and to bring my warranty paperwork with me just in case.

What would you do?

Do it yourself through the coolant line. Search around for the procedure. It's a piece of cake.

having read thru all these shudder issues I myself would not have any flush done unless the pan is dropped and cleaned FIRST ,then do the fluid transfer to replace all the old fluid. this is with using the transmission to pump out the old and add fluid as this is cycling .

the torque converters get damaged from debris that gets disturbed when fluids are forced thru the tranny . best do the pan drop and clean first.

my experience with old high mile vehicles is the use of the transmission shudder products does work ,but the pan should be cleaned first.

I had the shudder. Twice, weeks apart, for brief moments. I had about 130k on the car and had decided to exchange the ATF at the time. I haven't had the rumble strip issue since. I'm at 145k. Maybe a coincidence. How-to link is in my signature.

Which part is wrong? I like clean pans. I don't know what effect they would have but IMO if you are exchanging the fluid and clean pan should be considered for OCD compliance.

Which part is wrong? I like clean pans. I don't know what effect they would have but IMO if you are exchanging the fluid and clean pan should be considered for CDO compliance.

I have T/C shudder at the normal places, mostly on the 35 to 40 mph shift. I did a fluid exchange yesterday at 198300 miles. I was not sure when it was last done or IF it was last done. Will report any troubles. Top is old fluid, bottom new fluid for reference.

Drove to work and back home 30 miles total and is not gone yet. In previous threads they said 50 miles. If it is not gone I am going to add two tubes of Shudder Fixx. I did the exchange to improve the fluid quality. It was unknown when or if it had a fluid exchange.

I have noticed my shudder is when the Trans shifts and ends up 1000 to 1300 rpm. I think that is too low for the engine to pull effectively. I seem to get better mileage if I put in 4th until I get above 40 mph. I wish there was a flash to the engine computer to lock out the T/C until above 40 mph. That would fix my problem and I would be happy.

You can drive it 1000 miles and it will still shudder. Something (can you tell I'm not technical?) is stuck (causing the shudder in the first place) and the tube (chemicals) addresses that. New ATF won't, although it certainly doesn't hurt. Anyway, you need to add just one tube (not two).

I'm still shudder free and loving every minute of it!

If anyone is still reading. Fluid alone did not fix my shudder. It is less severe, but not gone. Shudder Fixx is on the way. I bought two tubes and will add one and see if shudder is gone. Will post results.

Since you "freshened" your ATF and (I presume) will be only adding the tube, give it a couple of days for it to cycle through the tranny. I haven't seen a thread where it didn't work.

Post results? I wish I video taped my shudder/rumble to post before and after video, oh well.

I am glad I freshened the fluid, it needed it. With 198,000 I am not. sure it it had ever been done before. Shudder Fixx did exactly what others have said and worked as advertised.

Taking the rig in tomorrow afternoon to the dealer. 09 V6. Getting the shudder @25-30 mph under slight acceleration (under 2k rpm). Only happens on cold starts. Once I'm driving for a good while, it's gone and I can't replicate it. Warranty ends soon, so I want to get his checked out, along with some other things. Will report back.
