Eh...I'm not convinced mine is the "rumble strip" issue. It doesn't happen the same as the rest I've read about. Mine is a hit or miss deal that happens in between 47-52mph no matter what gear I'm in, or what RPM that speed happens at. I did 4 drain and fills over a 4 week period and added 1 tube of shudder fix with every other drain and fill. Nothing changed.

I'm just going to throw this out here (didn't read the full thread), but why is everyone just doing a drain & fill opposed to a flush? You can do a flush at home using the lines that go to the transmission cooler using the transmissions pump, putting virtually no extra pressure on the system. This way you can work new fluid through the TC, and all transmission valves. Then you have the assurance of all new fluid in your tranny.
Given I don't have a 4th gen, but I have flushed my 3rd gen and my current Land Cruiser (same V8, slightly different tranny, but Sam concept) with great results.

It's been about a year and a half since i had the rumble strip issue and used the shutter fix liquid. No complaints. Shutter has not come back and i've easily put about 30k miles on since then.
I have the exact same problem as the others - 2005 V6 4Runner w/ 176,000 miles on it. Feels like running over rumble strips when going about 30-45 and have foot lightly on gas pedal. Other than that the truck is running perfectly - engine is powerful and smooth, shifts perfectly, rides beautifully.
First I changed the transfer cased fluid thinking the problem was in there, but that didn't solve anything. After reading a lot of other suggestions I decided to simply change the transmission fluid in my transmission. Toyota says there is no need to service these transmissions, but they are definitely WRONG. There's a drain plug in the bottom pan and there is a fill plug on the passenger side towards the back of the transmission. This alone tells me Toyota had originally planned on making these serviceable. When I drained the fluid it was clearly spent; it came out like black thin fluid. The new stuff I put in (Toyota brand ATF-WS type https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CTUSEMU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) was red and a little thicker. It certainly needed to be changed.
On the first ride out I could tell it was so much better. No rumble and still shifting smoothly - definitely the solution to this problem. I was going to change the screen inside, but I didn't have a new gasket so I didn't chance taking the pan down and tearing that. But I will definitely purchase a new screen and gasket, and take the transmission pan down. This way I can check the magnets in the bottom of the pan as well.
It was a quick job to just change the transmission fluid - maybe an hour. Putting the truck up level on jack stands takes longer than actually changing the fluid. I recommend this for anyone having the same symptoms as described above.

Check out post #237. It will show u a picture of the fill plug. Just unscrew it and put SF in there. No drain/flush involved.

Does anyone know if this is correct amount of oil for the drain and refill of just the pan,1.37qts? Ive read most all of this thread and seen a few different numbers researching this. This is from the factory service manual, but i wanna say ive seen somewhere else in the manual where its a different amount? i wanna say when i did it before i put in about 2.5s and it was happy when i went to check the fluid level at tempature. Developed this shudder over the past few days and this morning I thought the trans was going to drop out the bottom it got so bad. Went to do a drain an refill and a good amount of oil came out the over flow drain. Ive read the whole service manual on the filling and checking and the fluid level and its saying if you drain and refill the pan you need to put in 1.37 qts back in, or pour untill it comes out the over flow then get the fluid up to temp then check the level. I understand that 1.37qts is just a starting place but why is the number so off, the owners manual even says 3qts.

I drained and filled with Toyota atf and Instant Shudder Fixx. drove it 50 miles, no shudder. drained again and refilled with fluid only, still seems to work fine and seems to shift smoother. Should I add Instant Shudder Fixx every time I drain and fill? From all the posts here it seems that 3 times drain and fill is the norm. Drained and filled until it ran out of the overflow. Seems like it may have been overfilled, as more drained than I had to replace. Thoughts on this? Thanks for all the info on this thread, I was ready to replace the transmission!!!!

My 08 V6 with 170k started shuddering about 500 miles ago in the exact same way everyone else describes 20-30mph slight uphill in high gear. Had the dealership do a full fluid replacement and now it's gone. Have 100 miles on the new fluid and no sign of shudders. Would have done it myself except it wasn't much more than fluid cost to have them do a full flush. Transmission had never been touched prior to this, lots of hot weather driving and towing. Probably going to do a full flush every 60k here on out and it's a pretty small investment compared to the value I get out of my vehicle.

Are you doing the level check with the car running? The T4R should be running and the fluid should be at the proper temp to do the level check.
