Supposed to meet with salesman Tuesday about ordering a new 4runner if we can agree on price and trade-in. I'm thinking about getting running boards to make it easier for my wife getting in, I was just wondering if they will be on from the factory since I am ordering it, or does the dealer put them on when they it gets delivered?

i'm sure others will chime in but i'd say the dealer will put those on once it arrives on the boat or wherever it comes from.
side note: was just at toyota yesterday, they charge $925.00 for those steps. This is not a typo, 925 friggin dollars for something worth ~100. Talk about getting raped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just wrote this on another post- if you intend to use the running boards as something that you step on to get into the truck- I was adviced by folks on here that I should stay away from the factory OEM boards. Apparently, they do not stick out enough/ have enough space for someone to be able to step on to get in. I started looking elsewhere and settled on BLACK STEELCRAFT NERFBARS FOR NOW

Most running boards are port installed. As soon as they come off the boat, a company contracted by Toyota installs many options including tint, and running boards, and for some manufacturers other than Toyota, leather, and sunroofs.
I had the boards installed from the port, and they were OK. They were wide enough to be useful, but would have been better if they were wider. They looked nice and were very sturdy. I sold mine because I don't regularly drive with anyone who would need them, and I like the look without them.

Running Boards
I ordered my 4Runner a few days ago. Its coming without running boards. I want to get a pair of 4" oval nerf bars. The factory step would not out last the salt around here in Indiana. I have not decided on who to get the nerf bars from yet.. The 4" oval are wider than the 3" round bars and will make a nice step. They will be stainless only.

Why wouldn't the factory boards hold up in harsh conditions? They are aluminum with a stainless face. All of the hardware looked to be stainless too.
