Runningboards: Chrome -> Black

the runningboards on my 94 are pretty much rusted to nothing underneath so i recently bought some used stock runningboards for a pretty good price ($50 for both)...however they are chrome (with a tiny bit of surface rust). i want to make them black just like mine are now

does anyone have some tips on the most effective/cheapest (at-home) way to remove the chrome and make them black?

Ruff it up REALLLLLY good with sand paper, then paint them black.

great, sounds simple enough...i read online to use self-etching primer before i paint also....any recommendations on good paint that people have had success with that i could use for this?

ill post up before and after pics if anyone is interested!

should have just gotten a set of sliders

I like this idea. Haha. I know its hard to understand..but some people dont wheel.

As for pain, Im not sure. I used wall mart brand on my grill and after 8 months, its holding up fine. But not sure on the running boards. And of course post pictures. The internet loves pictures.

planning to finish one today...going to sand it down the most i can...then some duplicolor self-etching primer followed by krylon rust tough enamel

the undersides are bit rusted so im planning on por-15 for that (an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!)
