Safari snorkel on a 5th gen?

Talked to ARB rep in Vermont last weekend, and he said December for the snorkel...said the bumper is very, very close
 
Confirmed, it's march or april of 2016.

I may be getting a prototype installed because my truck will be being used in a series of commercials. But it's looking like summer of next year or spring.
 
It only takes a tiny amount of water like a few drops to destroy the lubrication properties of gear oil. I'm not sure if Toyota running gear is vented at all, if they are then Snorkel or not its a bad idea to submerse the running gear in water. Unless of course you are trying to escape a flash flood.

I had a very small amount leak into my bike transmission from washing. it entered thru a bad seal at a speedometer cable entrance. The bearing races were totally shot from the lubrication failure.

Front differential breather is located higher in the engine compartment. The rear is relatively low that is why most us relocate it higher.

And just to clarify... the low one in the rear is a one way valve that does not let air in. The reason people route it higher and convert to a two-way is that the quick cooling when dropping the diff into water can cause a strong enough vacuum to overcome the seals and suck water in....

The front breathers are routed up to the same height as the stock airbox inlet (top of the fenders). They are on the driver side next to the black relay box behind the battery. You can see two silver caps if you look for them.

I'm starting to think a snorkel might be in my plans. Still torn on it. I'm in very dusty conditions often and I think the snorkel could come in real handy for eliminating dust ingestion.

As far as going into deep water... It just gives you pace of mind that you won't hydro-lock, but the reality is that going into deep water causes all kinds of maintenance and long term reliability issues for your truck, even if you routed all the breathers up to the top of the snorkel. Once water is up near hood level... things get very concerning and the stock inlet is not far below that level to start with.
 
Subscribing. The snorkel on my Tacoma saved my ass in the Houston Memorial Day flood. I'd rather have one and not need it than the inverse...

When are you getting the prototype? I'd like to see some pictures mounted. The new one for the Tacoma looks huge.
 
Overland Journal posted their 2016 tacoma already decked with HUGE snorkel and bumper.... they said the 4runner bumper most likely will be next year

I was just coming here to comment about this. Looks like the 3rd Gen Tacoma became their priority and was taking up all their time.
