Hey! Not that this needs a snorkel, but my baby isn't being babied. My stock bash plate and fuel skid didn't come through this squeeze unscathed.

Spot on, sir! Unfortunately we didn't make it to Engineer Pass. Just after the mining site we ran into impassable snow. That was the theme for the trip, although expected.

Ran it a couple years back the week prior to the FJ Summit and had some wild weather while navigating it - washouts/falling rock/etc... Your weather was much better

Uh...why do you need a replacement hood? This should be as simple as someone just making a new replacement 'douche scoop' that actually has airflow pass through.
800+a paint job cost = wut?!

On one of the old 4Runner forums there was a guy that had made his 3rd Gen hood scoop functional with some tubing going from the back of the scoop under the hood to the air box. Gadget from URD eventually bought the 4Runner from him...not sure if he still has it but might be able to ping him for info on how it worked.

I don't want to go to the airbox, that's a direct way to dump water into your airbox, which defeats the purpose of ya know...a snorkel. I'd just want to add airflow into the engine bay.

The Tacoma guys tried this with their scooped hoods and got nothing more than a cold air intake. There's no air pressure where the scoop is, so no ram effect.
Based on how I've seen water sit in top of the scoop while moving, I'm guessing the same with the 4r....

There is a write on on the FJ Cruiser forums to accomplish that. It won't re route it to the air box, just adds to the engine bay. While I agree with not forking out the money for a scooped hood, just relaying a product if someone wanted.
On the FJ forum, they made the aesthetic scoop functional. I'd check it out if that's your interest.

Are you for real. If it doesn't go to the air box or air intake track, how can it be functional?
I suppose it could help cool the engine in extremely hot temperatures but the best way to do this would be to point the opening the other way (towards the windshield). This would create a venturi effect and pull air from under the hood out as the vehicle moves forward... if you want to cool the engine more while standing still, you'll have to install some fans to blow air out the bottom or sides or something... the oem hood scoop is pointed the wrong way to be functional as a hoood vent so the only thing opening it up will do is create an easy path for snow, rain or salt soaked water spray in the winter to enter the engine compartment.

If you read the last posts youd see the context in which the question was asked about. And you dont need fans to help cool engines on a stationary vehicle, k9 cars pop the hood to the latch catch and or have lovered hoods to cool while stationary for years. No snow, or road salt to worry about chiefy.

Driving through Zion NP two days ago, my wife says "Oh look, snorkel!" Which tells me she is ready for the hole in the fender... Just need to get my paws on one now.

I waited until I got the go ahead by ARB USA to post this (keep in mind ARB USA is the US distributor for ARB australia so they have very little say in product development). But the current plan is Safari snorkels for for 3rd Gen Tacoma AND 5th Gen 4Runner will begin shipping in august, with retailers getting them in late August/September.
I'll be getting the first production one to swap out my prototype, for longevity and durability reasons.
I'll keep you guys in the loop. But "soon"...
