I think that ARB is making a snorkel specific to 3rd Gens... it is just taking longer than expected.
When it comes time for me to order one I will order the ARB Tacoma snorkel if there isn't one for the 3rd Gen.

There is no change in the status of the 3rd gen snorkel, the design stage is still on hold. However, and I know it doesn't really matter in this sub-forum, but the tooling for the 4th gen is basically complete. The 5th gen 4Runner and 3rd gen Taco tools are currently being made.

DO IT! The big hole is easy. It's making sure the little ones are in the right spot that made me nervous.
Exactly. What makes me nervous is the holes that hold the snorkel it self. In the window pillar. Wonder if water/rain seeps into it or not. But I already have holes there for my windshield light bar lol

Use a bicycle tire tube for a thin rubber gasket. Used them many times on many projects and have never had a leak or rubbing \ damage of any kind.
That's a good idea. Between the cars metal and bracket you mean

Nothing like a good ole thread revival, but.....What about using the Safari Hilux 167 snorkel? It is a genuine Safari snorkel and is designed for the 3.4. If the cheapy Amazon & eBay Hilux 167 snorkels work, why wouldn't the Safari? I've asked Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters and he believes he can order it but it will take some time to order them in. For reference the correct Safari part number is SS136R and here's a website for it:

At those prices, I don't think they'd sell many of them for such an inexpensive (old) vehicle. Besides, as has been said, the Taco unit supposedly fits okay, and you can even buy a kit specifically for the 3rd gen here, which looks like it's the Taco unit with extra parts:
