Regarding the comment..... You think if someone tells him they think the xyz truck is better he's going to say "Oh, yeah. That truck might actually be better" ??

No I would'nt, my last T4R was a 2008 Sport Edition V6,.... a V8 would've been great, but I didn't really need it, it was an awsome truck. Before that I had a 99' LE and it was also an awesome truck. I could have drove the 08' for a few more years, I didn't really need a new one, but I've reached a point in my life where I enjoy a new truck every few years. I've driven 4X4's for over 25 years, Blazer, Bronco, JGC, Trooper II, T4R. If something better comes along I'll give it a try.

People will always do what they feel is best for them. If they think spending the money on one vehicle (paying tax, title and license) and turning around and selling it 6 months later, that just leaves a perfectly good used T4R out there for someone that appreciates it to pick up a little cheaper after the initial depreciation hit.
Its not likely something I would do, but its not my money, so I don't particularly care what the OP decides to do with their money. That said, threads like this usually go exactly the same way this one is going. You have your fan boys that scream blasphemy, the people that identify with or defend their position and the people that just want to argue what someone else said. In the end, its just another thread on another forum that doesn't mean much of anything.
Good luck with the LC, they are a shell of what they used to be, but if its not leaving pavement, then who cares. You're got a nice car that is dependable and reliable and fits your needs "better" than the T4R did. I only hope you're sure about it this time so a similar thread doesn't end up on the LC boards in 6 months.

The most reliable were the all the T4R's, The 99'LE was rock solid, the build, and quality of materials was unmatched, but it was not cheap, all of 35-36K in 99' and there was no negotiating. I put about 150K hard miles on it and only did routine maintenance, but it got old and tired and needed to be replaced. The 08' SE was well built, but I never warmed up to the styling and the seating position. The 11'LE has all the comforts that I've come to expect in a truck, has plenty of power and room and is plenty capable. While the quality of materials and build are lower, it's still the best overall that I have found for the money. I've never had any problems with any of them, the other brands not so much. While they were all plenty capable for my needs, they just could'nt stay out of the shop and in service.

I read that article a little while back, and I thought it was very interesting. I was really surprised by how low slung the 200 was when I saw one at the dealer. My parents have a 100 series (2006 or so I think) and it sits a lot higher than the newer ones. They have two others an FJ60 and an FJ40. The FJ60 has over 800,000 miles on it. :jaw drop: All three are used off road a lot. Hell, they live off road. LOL
Back when my family was really into collecting them, my dad had a connection in Australia who would import "the good ones" and have them switched over to left-hand drive. Usually, their first stop was at Specter Off Road in LA (SOR) for the switching parts. I learned then that Toyota made a bunch of different LCs that didn't make it here.
We even got to drive a Mega Cruiser which most people have never even heard of. It is basically a Toyota Hummer.
I wonder what would a new FJ70 would cost to have imported and retrofitted for left-hand drive? The truck alone would be around $75-80k USD.

Did you cover your eyes and point when you chose to buy your 4runner? Toyota's engineering and overall fit and finish may not be as substantial as what it was back in the 3rd gen years, sure, i agree. In regards to the list of flaws you have in original post, did you even research the truck before you bought it? Sorry, but i have to blame the OP for lack of insight into quality.
Those flaws you noticed six months into your purchase would have most definitely been noticed upon your test drive. I think your decision to upgrade to the next generation was influenced by your desire to have the next best thing. If you used a cost vs. benefit approach you may have kept your old generation.
As an engineer, i know that i have researched, test drove and criticized almost all major car manufacturers but something keeps bringing me back to Toyota. I recognize quality, as i believe most on here do. Which is why we are willing to pay the little bit extra for a vehicle with a thought process behind it.

What I ended up doing is buying a new Avalon that I will use on long trips when no off roading is involved. I get great mpg with the avalon and it is really comfortable. I almost demand memory seats, auto temp etc. I am keeping my 03 4runner for now. It only has 66k miles on it. I really want to stick with Toyota. My hope is that in a few years Toyata will make a couple of changes, mostly just in options and I will be in a new one. I have looked at some 09s but will only buy with very low miles like new condition. The problem is they bring as much as they cost new. Since I got the Avalon last august it is buying me time. I gave my 91 Jeep Wrangler to my son so I needed another vehicle. The dealer had the Avalon I bought marked down almost 7k off sticker and my wife feel in love with it.

I don't get how anyone is getting less than 15mpg. You're either driving with the parking brake on, or something is completely jacked up.
The factory estimates for the vehicle are 17-22mpg. I owned a 2011 SR5 and got on average 21mpg about 70% highway. I sold that 4runner and upgraded to the 2012 Trail Edition. Now I get on average 20mpg and this is while all-terrain tires.
Even if I pretended I was Vin Diesel at every stop light, I don't think I could get it below 15mpg. Something is messed up and I would go to the dealership and have them look at it while it's under warranty.
I also sold my 2011 4Runner but after 5 months! A couple 30 minute test drives were not enough for me to realize how much I would hate the steering, braking, handling and seat comfort. It was a total let down compared to the 3rd Gen and 4th Gen in fit and finish/handling. Big step down. I was so unhappy with it that I did the unthinkable and traded it off for another Jeep. Something I would have told anyone was idiotic!! I got a 2012 Laredo X Grand Cherokee. Its a much nicer place to spend time in. Compared to my 4Runner this has leather seats, leather arm rest, leather console, 6.5" nav, heated seats, keyless access, remote start, tow pkg, selec terrain (full time 4wd options), 10 speaker stereo, electrochromatic mirror, backup camera, power liftgate, Michelin tires, load leveling rear shocks....just way more for the money.
It handles better and the steering is the best Ive ever had in an SUV. After 1200 miles I like it wy more than the 5th Gen. I got $500 less than I paid for the 4Runner in August. I have ZERO doubt that the 4Runner will be a more reliable and tougher vehicle but for MY needs, the new Grand is everything I want. Please wish me luck that it will not fall apart! I wil consider another T4R if the put a better product out, which I am sure they will. Looking at the direction the new Camry went interior wise...I think the next 4Runner will be a little nicer. No flames intended at all.

My in-laws bought an 11' Avalon LTD last year that I get to drive from time to time, and it is damn sweet. They almost bought a Lexus ES but just could'nt jusitfy the extra $10K after driving the Avey.

And your V8 is not goin to get 22 mpg either. The 5th Gen engine is fine. The shift points in the trans are geared for fuel econom. I had no prolem with the 4.0 other than the exhaust drone in the cabin.

i would trade my 4runner, sell the shirt off my back, my bikes and perhaps whore myself out to 500 fat chicks for 50 bucks a piece or 50 really fat chicks for 500 bucks a piece to pay for a land cruiser 70 series with a v8 turbo diesel if it ever came to Canada.
i used to see them all the time and drove them during my travels in Australia and i almost convinced myself i should go live in Australia so i can enjoy life driving a 70 series, as stupid as that sounds. lol.
it is one of my dream cars which unfortunately will never see the light of day. the only way to get a 70 series here would be to purchase a used one and then swap over all the internals with brand new parts from ENS in Saskatchewan which DOES import 70 series land cruisers but you cannot insure them.
