Scan Gauge II Codes..New stuff

Ok, so I have the SG installed, up and running. I've only programmed one x-gauge so far and that is the trans temp (AFT) and it works like a charm! Coolant/water temp came as one of the default gauges and it, too, works well.

Question on the MPG guage:

Is the default gauge which reads "MPG" average or instantaneous (I haven't driven it yet to discover for myself) and what are the codes to program the other? I would like to able to see both average and instantaneous MPG.

I'm going to buy ken for my 2000 limited,what will show up automatically,I want tranny,motor temps,hp,and mpg.
What's the best options for routing and placing the gauge?

Mine is placed on top of the steering wheel column cover against the dash. Wire is routed between the cover and console down to the OBD connector. On mine you can't see the wires. I really like the location of the gauge. The only downfall is that you can't see it when you are turning, but who drives in circles all the time??? unless you are drifting........

So what x gauge codes work on 97? I would like trans temp but the one i used from page 7 is not working. I can get o2 data with those codes.
Update. I got trans temp info working using the codes for 05 and newer from herehttp://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/148594-scangauge-trans-temp.html but the reading im getting are not right sitting in the runner now trans temo reads -40.0. That cant be right intake temp is 87 and coolant temp m is 200. The trans temp iso codes dont work at all on my 97. There is a warning light for trans oil temp on the stodk cluster so there must be a sensor that the ecu reads and thus a way to make it work right on the scangauge. Any help woukd be great.

I'm pretty sure MPG is instantaneous and AVG is trip average. You can display both at the same time.

Is there a way to keep the AVG going until manually reset? I would rather have that than having it reset every time the engine is shut off but haven't figured that out.

'98 and older doesn't have a trans temp sensor that reports to the ECU, so there's no way for you to monitor it via the OBD2 port unfortunately.
 
The Trans control module seems to be independent on the older Gen 3 Runners. So it receives its necessary info from the ECM or individual sensors. No Buss that data is handed off between control modules. It's still a 3 wire RTD like newer models but that info stays inside the TCM. Hi temp is a single output from the TCM to the light bulb.
 
Well i am getting data from something using the 05 qnd newer trans temp codes but lime i said it reads negative. I figured older than 99 would not get true trans temp but i tried anyways and did get something. I wiol play with n it and see what happend. At cold start the temp is lower and goes up as the motor and trans warm up.
 
Unplug the connector from the temp sensor and see what happens to the reading. It's a HEX number. And the math may be wrong for the PID being displayed.
 
Ok well whatever data i am getting with the 2005+ trans temp codes is not trans temp data for sure. At idle it reads -30.0 or so and at full throttle it reads 2.0 so it coukd be anything. Really wonder what data this isit does not match up with any other sensor data i have seen. I wish i coukd run the scangauge and my modus snapon scanner at the same time to find what sensor it is reporting.

sorry to resurrect old thread. anyone able to get a/f working on 99+? Mine is a cali emission as well and trying to get it setup properly..

Oops wrong thread but maybe I’ll get an answer. Could it be becuase the tranny temp isn’t high enough yet? Trucks just idling and hasn’t been driven in a month as it’s in jack stands

Is your truck a '96-'98? If so, it won't report it. What did you enter for the XGauge code?

Yeah, mines a 1996. I put in the codes that are in this thread

Is there a way to get the XGauge to work with a 1996?


Edit: just read alittle in this thread and sounds like I’m sol on getting the XGauge trans temp to work.

Need to figure out a way to get a trans temp gauge in my truck.

Any suggestions?
