School me on body lifts… when to use?

Currently I only have a suspension lift but have started to consider a body lift as well if it helps me achieve goals off-road.

When would it be most appropriate to use a body lift (and how much BL?) in combination with a regular 2” to 3” suspension lift? It a BL primary for tire fitment or other purposes as well? I would eventually like to fit some larger tires in the 33” to 35” size range. Does it also help approach/departure angles?

Other unknowns right now is possibly upgrading the suspension again, and moving into a +3.5 long travel kit with fiberglass fenders. Not sure if I still need a BL at that point to fit a 35” tire, but it would be nice to know so I can better plan this stuff.

If anyone was curious as to why this is all coming up now… I am considering getting a front tube bumper and winch and the website has a questions about "Amount of body lift vehicle has”. I feel like I need to do some planning so I don’t have to do things twice.

On a site note: Anyone have any opinions about the Addicted Off-Road bumpers?

More tire clearance, better approach and departure angle if you can mount your bumpers higher or built it into the design of the bumper. Higher slider mounting too if you use weld-on sliders.

Suspension lifts don't help at all when trying to fit larger tires, only a body lift or trimming will help. I have a 1.5" and I think its the perfect amount. Easy to install too.

If you are into welding in rear shock hoops to fit 12" or 14" travel shocks a body lift will give you more room too. More room under the hatch to fit air tanks and things like that.

I did a 1/2" BL just to get the aftermarket bumpers and sliders to clear the bodywork, got sick of all the tap, tap tapping offroad and get the tire an extra 1/2" to the fender.
The body mounts flex quite a bit.
The front ones under the radiator get really chewed up.

I personally wouldn't go more than a 1" body lift if you're going to do it. 35s can easily be fit without one, it just depends how much you're willing to cut to make them fit. Only thing I still hit is frame on my driver side, but that's just alignment and a body lift wouldn't help that issue regardless. Didn't even touch the rear except to smash the metal where the stock bumper mounts to.

You can stuff a 35" tire with stock bump stops in the rear? Mine were super close to rubbing the wheel well with my 1.5" body lift.

I'm not running stock bumps, I'm running Durabumps.

Let me find the picture when I was redoing my rear set up. Note, I did strip all my plastic trim pieces off. Those would likely need to be cut in the rear to make this work.

This is right as the bump starts to compress but before lifting it off the jack stand. No rear coils, but shocks are on. No rubbing in the rear. That piece of plastic is gone now but I wasn't hitting it.

Yeah but stock bumps suck. [emoji23] I can get another 1/4" or so in when my durobumps compress. I'm using almost all of my shock travel with this set up. I actually probably need to strap my rear so the rear shocks don't bottom out.

I have a 1" BL , glad I didn't go higher. We don't have a lot of terrain for articulation in Florida, so I'm happy with it. Just an FYI, 315/70/17 I used to rub the rears everywhere I went before the BL.
