Worst case scenario (which I don't your frame is at), buy a blown engine or transmission 4Runner from a rust-free state and swap in that frame.
And I think it's worth it seeing as the body is fine and the unique story on how you got it.

Thanks, My pressure washer was busted & the garden hose doesn't have enough power to break up the large pieces so I had to get creative. The garage is cleaned out, my 3RZ along with my neighbors 2 Audi's are in there for the winter. It's been too cold to do anything. We'll do the excavation & concrete floor in the spring.
The frame is still good. There's one spot I want to cut out & weld in a section but yea, I would do a frame swap if I needed to.
That's the plan, this truck doesn't see salt again until the entire undercarriage is sanded, re-painted & fluid filmed. MT's are so much fun in the snow!

One day in May my CEL came on. I had an exhaust leak that I could hear so I figured it was time to investigate. Inspection was up in another month. I had a hard time tightening the bolts that join my headers to the cat the year before & they must have vibrated loose. It didn't help that I re-used the old rusty ones. So off to the hardware for some nuts & bolts.
Old & new. I decided to get lock washers since it's so hard to get a wrench on the nuts and bold heads. They're almost right up against the pipe. No sockets or ratcheting wrenches here. :-(

I used the bottle jack to hold up the muffler.

And done, it doesn't look hard but there's no room to turn a wrench in there & the stubby wasn't letting me have any leverage. Basically it was just (2) 14mm (I think) open ends a quarter turn at a time. One on the nut & one on the head. It's been fine for 2 years now.

I also got new 6 ton jack stands delivered from Amazon. My old 2 tons from 1989 weren't cutting it anymore. :becky:

I also discovered that the banging noise coming from under my rig was the driveshaft hitting the gas tank skid. It was a nice day & since I got the exhaust leak fixed quickly I decide to pull the skid.
You can see from the pics that it was actually being hammered down. That was from the 2 balancing weights on my Tom Woods drive shaft. Luckily they're still attached to the shaft.

I got the rears from [MENTION=18304]pearlj10[/MENTION]. These are the best deal on the web. Just as beefy as anyone else's but cheaper than anyone else. The only problem I had was that the bolt was a little too thick for the swaybar & had to drill out the hole a little.

I got the fronts from Mstudt because I wanted discos.
Of course the old ones all snapped off.

In June of 2016 RUGGED Elegance was selling 3 sets of Black Pearl emblems in the classifieds. These went for over $200 at the dealer & I think he picked up 3 sets off a guy on E-Bay for $100. He sold 2 & kept a set so his were free. They come nicely wrapped in tissue paper so they don't get scratched. I haven't put these on yet. I'm having second thoughts. I love them but when I put my Shrockworks rear bumper on with tire carrier & gas can holder you wont even see them. Seems like a waste. I might put them on my Limited but these are for an SR5...decisions???

I'm always doing maintenance over mods but I should let loose & do more fun/cosmetic stuff. I could have been driving around with those for a year & a half now.
Thanks, we got him as a puppy in late 2011. He jumps over the railing on the deck & chases coyotes into the woods... Good watch dog, LOL

1. Small creatures from South Park that have to go to work. They work all night and they search for underpants! They won't stop until they have underpants.
Why do they do that you may ask..For profit of course. They have just not quite figured out phase 2.

My battery light came on for the first time & I had to look up what that meant. Of course it means that your alternator is failing not your battery! LOL I looked at my options & knowing from previous cars that rebuilt alts from the autoparts stores suck balls so it was either OEM or a High Output Atl. We're building bad ass rigs here right? I had no interest in that low quality GM CS whatever Alt & it's not plug & play. OEM 70a is no fun when were adding lights, big stereos & winches etc. There are a few companies that make high power Alts but I wasn't gonna spend $500. I decided on "Quality Power" based out of Cali. They rebuild OEM Denso's with better guts for around $60 more than OEM & you get 160amps. I dont know if this will last 16 years but I hope it lasts a long time for $300.
High Output Alternators & High Torque Starters
I decided to paint my accessories Blue. Everyone here uses TRD Red for calipers, center caps, D-Rings etc so I wanted to be different. I found POR 15 Caliper paint to be the right shade, not too light & not too dark. The caliper kit was only $22 on Amazon. I also plan on painting my high torque starter, Tundra calipers, valve cover & brake drums this color.

I made a thread when I did my TBU. I'll just copy & paste it here.

I did the TBU yesterday which was pretty easy. I've read so much about it here that I felt like I've done it before. I've only done front pads & rotors once before in '96 on my '78 Coupe Deville.
We did it in my neighbor Butch's driveway. He's a retired bus mechanic of 25 years & has 2 huge Matco tool chests & compressor in his garage.
We're not even finished taking apart the drivers side & he gets incoherent on me. He couldn't figure out what sockets to pull out. He kept saying, "I'm thinking, I'm thinking". I thought it was the heat because it was 100* out. So I made him sit in the shade & continued working. He was getting worse & I thought maybe he was on drugs (heroin) because it looked like the dope nod. Then his other neighbor came by & said it was Diabetic shock. We got him into the house with A/C & fed him some cookies to get his sugar up. He was back to normal within 2 hrs & came back out to help me just in time because I broke one of the caliper brake lines. He has a bender so I took his '93 Jeep Cherokee to the only auto parts store open on a Sunday afternoon & got a new line. That was my first time driving a Cherokee & it sucked. The steering was so loose & could move the wheel 4" left or right & the truck stayed straight. LOL Reminded me of my old '64 Sedan DeVille.
But the day ended good. I didn't have to call an ambulance & my brakes work insanely good. I took it for it test drive & when I hit the brakes I didn't expect it to stop so suddenly & all of my tools that I had in the back came flying forward LOL. I was like holy shlt! Definitely a different feel but I love them. And because pics are mandatory...
I used POR15 Blue Caliper paint, Rustoleom Aluminum for the rotor & Valvoline Dot 3-4 Synthetic fluid. I drained all of the old fluid out of the system.
A member here bought an 01 with these parts in the back. The PO never installed them & the new owner had no intentions of installing them so he put them up for sale. I paid $550 for over $1200 worth of parts. I intended to do the TBU someday but I couldn't pass up this deal & the guy was close enough for me to drive to.

Looks good mike. Digging the blue. You should try and refurbish your old alternator. Maybe it’s just the brushes ? You can get OEM brushes for like $12. And have a back up alternator.
Another thing I read. Is OEM takes the most abuse vs a aftermarket. But I couldn’t back that up.
