I agree, I wouldn't run it consistantly in a modern engine, but occasional use isnt going to do anything Destructive to the engine.

Well, what I would say is IF somebody want's to use it and it does what is advertised (remove sludge/carbon/fart stains) from the motor then an oil change immediately after the treatment is warranted.

Lets say it does remove carbon buildup. As a solvent (which is really what it is) I have no scientific basis to say it does or doesn't. I doubt in 60 years anybody has come up with that because it's subjective.

Carbon grit is tough stuff. It's baby diamonds. Do you want that floating around your main bearings unfettered? I sure don't. ;-)

This thread reminds me of those colon cleanses where people show the ridiculous crap that comes out afterwards. Maybe it cleans something out, I don't know.

:toilet:

...Ask yourself this question: Why would OEM's like Toyota, BMW, Honda, MB, VW, and GM spend time and money supporting Top Tier gasoline if there wasn't something to it? Correct, they wouldn't. They don't care about fuel, but do care about warranty claims, complaints about driveability issues, and customer satisfaction.

Let's be honest. 97% of the people on earth and 95% of the people on this forum had never heard of "Top Tier" gas before this thread. I have been driving a long time and I never heard the term nor saw it in my owners manual (did I miss it)?

The majority of people are going to buy gas based on 1-3 factors:

1) Shit. I am almost out of gas and there is a station.
AND/OR
2) That station is $ 0.08 cheaper than the one across the street.
AND/OR
3) I get $ 0.30 a gallon off at XYZ because of my grocery store loyalty points.

XYZ in my case is Loaf and Jug and they are not on the "Top Tier" list. I have been filling there for probably over 10 years and never once had an issue.

I have a buddy that is a petroleum engineer and he was once explaining how the whole process works.

First, every gas station name brand does not have a refinery. In fact, almost none do.

Lets take the city where I live. There is one refinery that serves the front range and the majority of Colorado. Suncor Energy in Commerce City. Anybody that lives here knows it because it is a huge complex (like any refinery) and when you pas it on the highway, the smell is refined (so to speak).

If you are buying gas or diesel in your refineries market you are getting gas from that refinery whether you go to Shell, Costco or Mom and Dad's Pump and Squat. Sure, the individual retailers may order slightly different blends of non-enhanced, Ethanol or MTBE (required here in the winter months) but in the end, they all have to meet the same octane testing and purity requirements.

So I will argue that the Top Tier thing - don't mean squat in the real world.

Blitz.... you are correct, the differences are so small its not worth chasing the "brand gas"
unless you are building a race engine, your brand gas doesnt make a hill of beans.

Right. And if you are building a high buck racing motor for use in say a street unlimited or Pro-Stock to race at Bandimere, you are going to be running Sunoco racing fuel you buy in 50 gallon barrels anyway, not at Mom and Pops Pump and Squat. :-)

You need to amend your post to "... don't mean squat for the ignorant." I am ignorant about lot's of things (some on purpose so I can enjoy the bliss others seem to have) but I try to run good fuel in my vehicle. Even in my small town there are stations with top tier fuel and the price difference is not very much.

Ya think? Texas posted all kinds of links to to support his argument. You have any or are you just making stuff up?

Conoco claims 30% over min. requirements for Top Tier designation.

Hey - I like Marvel Mystery Oil ------- but mainly as a light shop oil. I do not use w/ engine oil, but do use a little in fuel of my carbureted '84 V-8 that I drive about 100 miles a year.

Take it for what you will engineer, if people want cold fact then they shouldn't be looking on a online forum for answers or validation for their actions. Instead they should search on their own and make their own decision. We can look up studies all day long and end up more confused than when we started. Data can always be manipulated to achieve the desired results, we may as well argue what's better coke, Pepsi, or rc cola. What I am offering is my experience along with those around me, not to mention the API standards that govern the fuels. But if we all believe everything we read on the internet to be true and take experience into account then we we all doomed.

I have 107000 miles on my 2011 I feel that after the sea foam the engine has been running smoother.

I plan on getting an oil change tomorrow.would anyone recommend synthetic on my high milage truck?

Yeah. See thats the problem with designations like "Top Tier".

The place I fill has this on their website:

We know how important fuel quality is to our customers and that is why we provide only the highest quality gasoline. The gasoline at Loaf 'N Jug contains detergents and cleansing agents to help keep your engine clean while reducing emissions. --> Our gasoline meets all federal, EPA, and auto manufacturer requirements for quality. <--

So is that saying they are "Top Tier" or "Mid-Tier"? If they state that, does that mean that all the "Top Tier" manufacturers agree even they are not on "the list"?

It's a crock of shit. If I am that worried about it I'll throw a bottle of Chevron Techron in the tank every 3K miles and accomplish much more than the additional detergent's in top tier fuel ever will and get better gas mileage to boot.

I am not going to lose sleep over this inane topic for sure.

You don't need to add oil after you change it post-SeaFoam.

The SeaFoam vapors will protect your engine for a minimum of 5K miles. Leave the oil filter off for maximum affect and just put some masking tape over that annoying blinking red light on your dash.

Your engine will alert you when the cleansing process is complete with a series of loud knocks.

I definitely wouldn't use synthetic. I can't imagine anyone who would recommend synthetic oil for our trucks..... Oh wait.

LOL.

I once had a guy argue (vehemently) with me and several others on a motorcycle website that once you run synthetic, if you run dino oil or vice versa you will ruin the motor.

This went on for weeks and he cited all sorts of b.s. internet articles about the way dino oil bonds to the cylinders and when you introduce synthetic and go back to dino you "confuse" the molecules bonded to the metal. I shit you not.

999R prior here - BTW.

Why does every thread on this site turn into a useless mess of misinformation.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the regular members :usa2:

Many of you guys have a way of sucking the energy out of everything. You have all your internet research to go on. LOL

Somehow progress still happens, its just so much slower than it should be.

For the OP, Yes put synthetic in it 0w-20. I think it is labeled right on the oil fill cap. In the future, don't accidentally put sea-foam into your crankcase.

Who are you attacking, WFO?
