Seafoamed today!!

bong water will work pretty good also to clean your intake runners, ports, and combustion chamber. It is a universal solvent after all. Can't say that I have tired it though. Maybe the CO guys use it. :bolt:

Not this one, only use seafoam on my carbed truck, bikes, and boat. Bong water is good for one thing.... drinking:barf:

Texas thank you and good job with the info and taking the time to post it, the majority of stations people go to have the "top tier" gas anyway And the ones that dont, there probably isnt another option around. The differneces are minimum. If we really want to talk about quality we should look at the storage and transfer tanks them self. Im not worried about getting cheap gas from mom and pops, id be, more worried about getting gas with water or some other contaminates.
Top Tier Gasoline

Most places you will go will have TT fuels

Not if you have 100000 miles on it but thanks for posting in.

This forum is informative in ways, but some of the members are jerks

The FJ cruiser forum was much better.

Thanks to everyone who gave real answers and stayed on topic.
feel free to zip back over to the fj forum..
. Sincerely the jerk.

OP,

Just how did you use the seafoam? If I remember correctly, it says something like warm up the engine, dump some in the vacuum hose, then shut off for like 15-20 minutes. That being said, I have only used it on two vehicles with over 100K on each. One after letting it sit then starting up, smoked worse than a mosquito truck for a couple of blocks. I did the same a few years later to another vehicle and no smoke came out.

On a side note, I have a Honda that would trigger a CEL every time you redlined it. (over 150K). I did a few tanks of fuel injector cleaner and now no CEL when redlining the engine. The code it was pulling was something like running lean but would only happen if you revved it up high, now after some injector cleaner, it is like a newer engine.

Thanks, the stations that do per the Top Tier gas website often have stickers on the pump that indicate Top Tier gas. As I said earlier, if a brand is Top Tier at one station, they have to be at all of them, so stick to a brand on the list and you are good to go.

As for the differences being minimal, it depends on your perspective. For example, one of the the primary gasoline additives we produce (we supply over 50% global market today), the treat rate for Top Tier is ~2.5x that of LAC. Some brands are adding 3x-5x LAC to their premium grade gasolines. With millions of miles of test data the numbers prove the performance. The difference in deposits between LAC and Top Tier fuel used in the same engine would surprise you. I've seen many of the engines we've torn down after testing and the difference is definitely impressive.

That would explain the logic behind the straight tailpipe and exhaust fumes coming in the back window. That's Toyota, always thinking of the future.

There are a lot of smart, knowledgable guys here and your area of expertise is welcomed! I am glad there is someone else besides me that will explain winter and summer gas lol. There will be a lot of people who will get their feelings hurt by your posts though. Why? Because what they think they know will suddenly become wrong. Anyway, have fun and keep posting good stuff.

I've got a '96 bronco that was my hunting truck for years. I used to put the cheapest gas I could find in it and I would seafoam it every year before hunting season and it would make a difference in how it ran and the fuel mileage. The gas gauge is broken so tracking mileage was the only way I had of knowing when it was time to stop. After seafoam I would usually see a mile to a mile and a half more a gallon. After burning a valve in a WRX that my wife had with only two hundred thousand on it and the mechanic telling us it was more than likely due to bad gas we stopped price shopping and started using shell, Exxon, or B.P. exclusively. That's been two years ago, and my bronco hasn't lost the mileage it used to when using the cheap stuff. I've seafoamed it as usual but the difference hasn't been as noticeable since switching to better gas. I can't see seafoam being super helpful in a newer vehicle that has had quality gas in it. I doubt I'll use it in the bronco again since running good gas has made it unnecessary. YMMV

Just an FYI you can always head over to BobIsTheOilGuy. Lots of good info. Was grateful someone shared that with me I thought I would pass it along. :)

Just be aware that like here, there are a few people on Bitog who are knowledgeable, and many more that spread misinformation.

Of course :) I know better I have been on the interwebz since well there was almost no interwebz 2800 baud, lucky son of a dad that worked on mainframes the size of 4runners :D. I am very familiar with weblore. Also the dilution ratio is much lower. You have a forum with 10k people that talk about oil, here you have 100~ people that talk about oil. They also seem to be pretty good about weeding out the weenies.

Don't have all the answers by any stretch, but am a data driven guy, and have a passion for my job which tends to bleed over into my hobbies.

I was truly kidding and just yanking your chain about the weed stuff, which is why I put "in all seriousness" in the next paragraph. I really like Colorado and definitely realize we have our own issues down here (especially in large cities and border towns) with cartels and drug problems as do most states bordering Mexico. I don't smoke the wacky tobacco either, but have friends that do and I don't hold it against them. To each their own I say!

Yeah, but see you do the same thing 1Engineer does and I am not sure you even realize it (nor am I sure he does).

Comments like this:

"Guess you are only here to see how to put all of the cool accessories on your truck for the bling factor. Your prerogative to buy cheap gas and dirty up your engine, but don't say I didn't try to help keep the parts under the hood clean.".

You have no clue who I am or what I know.

I admitted earlier in this thread that I had never even heard of Top Tier gas. So I learned something. Do I know everything? No. Do I know quite a bit about vehicles? Yes, I do. Would I purposely post incorrect info? No, I wouldn't.

But the problem with people like you and Greg is you are like vultures when you read something you disagree with. You take it over the line and make condescending innuendo that the minions don't and can't understand. And that pisses people off. Especially the younger guys who are just trying to learn.

So. I appreciate your sharing your knowledge on the Top Tier gas. It was informative and I learned several things I didn't know. I'll give you an A for content and a C for delivery.

As far as your comment above concerning why I am on this site (bling?):

1) 2002 4Runner. 115K miles, box stock, cherry and likely cleaner than 98% of the 3rd Gen's in existence. Which I traded in on...
2) 2015 TE. Which will remain box stock because it does everything I need it to exactly as delivered from Toyota.
3) Four 4Runners and two Toyota pickups prior in the family.

It's not my first rodeo. ;-)

For the record, it is never my intention to be a "vulture", but thanks for pointing it out. I'll work on it.

Now, please take a look at it from my perspective. You posted a page worth of 99% incorrect information in response to a fact based post I wrote. I didn't come looking for you, you came looking for me, basically attempting to negate a fact based post. As for not knowing who you are or what you know, you are correct, I don't. The same could be said for you where I'm concerned, but you chose to chime in with noise. My first few posts on the subject were strictly factual and not full of innuendo. They were meant to be informative and helpful. However, when I take the time to try to help fellow forum members understand something that might be of benefit in maintaining their vehicles in the long run, and you piss all over the facts as if I'm the one that's clueless, it tends to provoke a negative response.

Re-read your first post in response to mine and tell me that it's helpful? No, its full of opinions, flippant attitude, and a dismissive response to an initiative that OEM's have spent millions on attempting to educate the public and getting their message out there for the benefit of all drivers.

I fully admit, I do have a low threshold for B.S. There is way too much useless information flying around the internet from people that have no clue what they are talking about but want to appear to be an authority on any given subject. I subscribe to the following adage and it's served me well: "It's better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool, then to open your mouth and remove all doubt". I do my best to live by that, and in my humble opinion the world would be a better place if everyone else did too.

Unless a person is certain about a fact or well read on a certain subject, its best to keep one's mouth shut and learn something from those that do. I'm not steeped in knowledge on many things, which is why I spend a lot of time listening and reading (books, not the internet).

As for the "bling" comment and assumption, I apologize. I wrongly assumed based on your comments (and yes I know what assume stands for) that if you couldn't care less about fuel that might be good for your rig, and using grocery points was more important to save $0.30/gal., then it must be the bling that drives you. I stand corrected and learned something as well.

Now go buy some Top Tier gas!! :D

Very well articulated and my thoughts exactly. I only add that many people not only want a correct answer but they want it in 3rd grade words AND they want it worded in an apologetic way.

You are right Blitzkrieg I don't know anything about you except for your posts and vice versa. Go re read yours.

This is completely off the OPs topic but somewhat r/t the gas topic....kinda. :D

I took a trip to Colorado this weekend. I have family there. I did not partake but only because city councils in the little farm towns I visited won't allow dispensaries yet. ;) And blitzkrieg, my wife and i don't smoke because we don't want to break the law in Texas. Not because we are squeaky clean or anything; I just don't want the embarrassment and job hassles if I were to get arrested visiting a dealer here. We would occasionally if and when they legalize it. So, I'm sure a lot of folks in Colorado are similar and now smoke because it's legal. Just a side. I digress...

Anyway on to the point; I put about 10 tanks of gas in this weekend. For each tank I reset the avg mpg meter. Almost all of them averaged about 17-18mpg. However, one tank (on the way there) stayed at 22mpg or above the whole time. Driving hwy and in town. As soon as I refilled it went back down to 17-18mpg. Do you guys think that that is just an inconsistency of the gauge? Or was it some magic gas I happened upon? I am at about 3000 miles on the odo if that helps. If this is too far off topic feel free to PM me with any ideas as to why that might happen. Thanks!
