I just got my '07 V8. Been reading a lot on this subject here on the forum. I don't have symptoms of a failing pump or valves yet, but I'm considering a preemptive bypass install to avoid any issues in the future. My question: has anyone had an issue passing emissions inspection after installing? I'm in PA if that makes a difference. Thanks.

I've had the SlyFox bypass on my 2005 V8 SR5 for the last 3 inspections with no issues. 220k miles and running strong with no codes or issues.

I just purchased a 2008 V8 4Runner. Before I go ahead and purchase a bypass, how can I find out there is one already installed from the previous owner? And is Slyfox’s kit compatible with 2008 MY?

Look around MAF sensor and/or in the relay box above drivers side fender well. I replied to your email, just wanted to answer here as well for people reading through this in the future.

I was having the shop vac noise at a cold start. I ordered the kit from slyfox75 and it arrived fast with great instructions. I confirmed the installation was successful with a voltmeter and the noise is gone. Very happy I did this and thanks to Jeff for the kit to prevent an expensive repair down the road.

yes, I had answered the 2008 question directly with him as well. No issues with 2008 4R or GX, many working fine in the field. The bypass will work, but leave a CEL light on the 2008 Tundras and Sequoias.

Gotta admit, it took me off guard when the truck didn't start right away after, but it did on try 2! :lol:

Monkey!, Hey man thanks for the pics and props. The reason your truck and others typically don't start on first start afterwards is the battery cable was removed to kill the codes and also this wipes the ECUs learned timing of your engine. The second time it will start, this has NOTHING to do with the bypass and EVERYTHING to do with battery being disconnected for a while. You will notice also your auto up/down of your windows will have to relearn as well as a few other things(defrost on rear glass wont work until glass in manually raised and lowered one time)

Actually, I never unplugged the battery!

I think it was just the face that I unplugged the relay? I even waited a full 10-20 seconds to start after turning the key to the "on" position like I normally do (this typically works) when unplugging the battery and it just just turned over without a start.

No issues since, so no worries, just gave me a quick scare! :lol: You should be getting a bunch of new customers since many have inquired since I shared it on my social media.

It's the "fog-lights-on-with-ignition" mod so I can turn them on without the low beams being on.

Just recently had the dreaded vacuum air pump noise at start up at 130,000 miles, went to the dealer and they quoted me 3k before taxes (California prices)..... Dam near had a stroke. They even recommended me to replace the starter and check valves since its all torn apart, I didn't even ask the price of that added to the bill.

I Just picked up an 05 with the 4.7 vvti and the owner gave me maintenance records which shows they brought it to a private shop on 2 separate occasions.

1st time at 166k to replace Secondary air injection switching valves and intake manifold gasket. 2nd time about 6k miles later states they replaced air injection pump.

No check engine lights on currently, but I did notice a high pitch shop vac sound people mentioned in this thread. Anyone with more knowledge on this, do you think I should just do the bypass to be safe?

Should also mention this only happens at cold start, I noticed it because I added remote start, hard to tell from inside the truck.
