I'm happy to say that I am the proud owner of my second 99 4Runner. The last one (still my avatar) was hit by a drunk driver and totaled, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as I was able to "upgrade" to a Limited version with only 55k miles on it. The new Runner has a stock Toyota security system and I'm trying to figure out what it is exactly and if there are any programming options. So I guess the first question is, does anyone know exactly what model comes in the 99 limited? And can you program it for passive entry or anything like that?
I did some digging around and found a manual for the RS3000 and I'm pretty sure it isn't that since the remotes don't match what I have, and it didn't respond to the programming sequence. I also found a manual for the RS3200 Plus that shows the remote I have, but it mentions a glass breakage sensor and I don't think I have that (at least I couldn't get it to trigger). However, I tried the instructions to program the passive mode and the car responded correctly to the first part of the sequence, but after that it didn't respond like the manual said it would and I couldn't get passive arming enabled. Maybe it isn't a Plus version? If anyone knows, and if anyone knows how to program it, please let me know! Also, is it possible to add the glass breakage module or any other features? Can you bypass the horn as an alarm and install a regular siren?
I know some of you will recommend getting an aftermarket alarm, and I am still considering that, but I did that in my SR5 model and it didn't integrate into the vehicle as well as I would have liked. I think alot of that was due to the installer not knowing the 4Runner well enough, but I live in a small town and I don't have many options in that area.
Some info to help identify it: I have the engine immobilizer feature, it re-arms if unarmed and no doors are opened, and the remote is the standard keyless entry remote with lock, unlock, rear window roll down and red panic button on the back.
Thanks for any info you can give!!!
