Seeking: WiFi OBD2 for iOS

Does Dash Command read your Transmission Temperature. That's the one thing I'm most interested in for towing purposes.

Their website says it has the potential to for some vehicles. Not very useful...

Well, asked on the Dash Command forums if their product support transmission temps on my 2004 and they said it does not. Bummer.

Would still be curious to see what your results are.

Your go to iOS app for Toyota's TFT is OBD Car Doctor (Free)...you will need to manually add an OBD protocol specific to the car model and year.
 
Got this from UPS yesterday and got it working with the Car Doctor app. However I don't see a TFT readout. Nor do I see a way to add in an PID or protocol to read it.

It's kind of neat but so far haven't found it incredibly useful. It does show engine load and the exact coolant temp. The rest of the stuff doesn't mean anything to me. Fuel trim levels etc.

I'm going to contact them and see if they can give guidance on adding PIDs. Will try to get a picture or two added later.

The app is free though so no complaints. And the WiFi reader was only $16.

Have a feeling I'll eventually have to upgrade to a scangauge II to get the TFT temps. Not even sure that will work with my 2004.
 
i messed with mine and Dash Command and cannot find the PID to support the trans temp. but everything else seems accurate.
 
Yeah. I went out and played with it on my lunch break. Figured out how to set the protocols for the Car Doctor App but no luck with the TFT.

I think it has to do with the protocol the 4Runners use changing from ISO to CAN in 2005. Per: http://www.scangauge.com/support/x-gauge/toyota-specific/

Went ahead and bought Dash Command. It has a lot more info than the free Car Doctor. If I'm gonna have the OBD device may as well have an app that gives a little more info and that looks good. Probably won't use it much in day to day use. Perhaps it'll come in handy for long road trips or if I ever throw a code or anything.

i keep it in my car so if i ever need it or if its running weird i can plug it in and see more than what my gauges show.
 
I don't think any of these will give an accurate transmission temp being they connect the same way a ScanGuage connects and we know the reading SG shows (TFT) isn't accurate.
