Serious Questions about Audio Install

It's a compromise I may have to take. I don't want to loose any space back there. As a matter of fact, all that space is spoken for. Now if they can carve a box into the passenger side trunk area to fit a 10" sub without covering the outlets, I'm set. I've talked to a shop that think they can do it. They'll cut up some of that side paneling and shape a fiberglass box into it. I'm just concern that it'll be another compromise as the box may not have enough volume.

Yes, those reasons are why why I went with an 8". At my shop the 10" couldn't be done without loosing all outlets. Frankly I think the 8" will satisfy most everyone but those true audiophiles.
You can listen to a sub, but when you are doing a custom box the end result may be different than what was anticipated. Another thing with our 4Runners is that there is a lot of air space, it's hard to duplicate a vehicles environment when sitting in a listening booth.
As noted the 8" will certainly work for a vast majority, but in my opinion, yes the 10" is the way to go. With the 8" I am usually left wanting a little more... so in the end I feel I probably should have went with the 10" despite the loss of space. (I have 3rd row seating so that was something else I had to take into account.)
It's expensive having a custom fiberglass sub box built that integrates into a vehicle. I certainly don't have the experience or talent to do it myself. I would say if you can afford to loose the space and the power outlets, do it right the first time and get the 10" built in.
For now I can certainly live with the 8" though... like I said though there are many times I miss my old 10W6v2-D4 (that my wife has now). At this point though I will wait crossing my fingers for the 5th Gen T4R StealthBox.

Ok, so the installation is done. I decided to go with the JL 650 CSI instead of the speakers that I had originally planned on installing. Also installed Dynamat.
And..... I have to say that I am very very happy with the sound quality! The music is very clear and sharp and the bass is excellent too!
The MUSIC IS SO CLEAR THAT EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE I WILL HEAR ANOTHER SONG THAT IS UNDER THE SONG THAT IS BEING PLAYED! JUST kidding...but in all seriousness- am definitely happy with the way the system sounds now.
For those of you looking to do this - yes just replacing the OEM speakers will definitely do the trick!
Now- any idea of how much I should sell the OEM speakers for on Ebay, Amazon or Craigslist? I know that there might not be a big market- but I do not mind taking a chance and earning a few bucks!

Same here... can't even sell my running boards in these parts.
Weighing in here a bit late!
I just did a full JL audio conversion from the factory base stereo. hD900/5 and a cleansweep for the audio processor. Wanted hue stealth and stock look as well as factory H/U functionality. I know it's been run into ground again and again but I hate "party mode". It rubbish. And screws with front stage imaging. I did go a different route with front speakers. I did c5-653's up front. 6.5" and the 4" in the 6x9 hole with 1.75" in the dash. Others on various threads have warned about tweets in dash direct reflecting off windshield at your face makes it too bright. But with all three up front on each side it's a perfect sound stage that is incredible with all the dynomat in doors. With that amp these speakers will make your ears bleed before they even begin to distort. I went c2-650x for all four rears to save a few pennies. I've gotta say for the low'z just an 8w7 is unbelievable! Nobody believes it's just a single 8 and not a pair of 10 or 12's. Granted now way is that fittin in the side panel! But hey I don't mind taking the box out on rare occasions for carrying a load or the dogs. But in any case JL's HD 5 & 6 channel are the best things running if your looking to upgrade your runners stereo. IMHO of course...
