Service 90k Belt/W.P. dealer doesn't feel certian parts needed

Just curious as why 2 dealers I talked to say Pully's, Idler's, Tensioner's, Crank and Cam seal's you really don't need to worry about that much on the 90k service. What gives? They said all would be inspected. I am also doing upper/lower rad hoses, thermostat, serp belt along with the T belt and W.P.

Repeat customer in another 50-70K miles. Such a racket. I had the same response when I asked the Toyota "master tech" about replacing the water pump at the same time as the timing belt in the wife's Sienna.

His exact wording was; "Not needed to be replaced unless it is leaking"

The mechanic IS correct...it's NOT needed..but it is prudent. The labor to replace the water pump when you're doing the timing belt is insignificant compared to what it will cost when it starts to leak.

If you're in there replacing the timing belt...then replacing the water pump is the "SMART" thing to do.

For those of use with timing chains..then there is no need to replace until it's leaking.

they are correct. the majority of timing belt jobs i do dont need water pumps, seals etc. but as its allready been stated, it pays to do them at the same time to save some money in labor. i rarely replace idlers or pullys. typically its the belt, pump, and seals.

Cool good to know. They said they would make sure all is good. Just dropped it off first thing. The peace of mind is worth it. Doing W.P.,T belt, Serp Belt, Rad Hoses Upper/Lower thermostat. At 97k and counting. FJ front springs are on there way. Have rear FJ springs. Just gota find a smokin deal on some 5100's now.

i just did my TB seals were fine, didnt replace
