Service milestones & Orange County Toyota Service centers

I'm approaching 20,000 on my 4runner.
I was wondering what everyone here thought about the milestone service(s) and what increments are recommended/suggested.

I had a toyota before and it was at ever 25000 miles I want to say?

Aside from an oil change, what else should I get done? I already get my tires rotated through Firestone (purchased their unlimited alignment deal) along with lifetime rotation and balance.

My second inquiry is what Orange County service center should I go to and on the flip side, which one should I avoid? I'm thinking of going to the Tustin Toyota service center.

Thoughts, Suggestions?

The maintenance you could have is in your owners manual. At 20K I changed my oil, filter, cleaned my cabin filter and did a visual check on belts, hoses etc. I did not need a new air filter but put one in anyway as winter was coming on. I also had my tires rotated. Only you can make a decision on what maintenance needs you have and if you are not sure it's better to be safe than sorry.

I told Toyota what I wanted done. Toyota changed the oil, greased it and rotated the tires under the "2 year 20K free deal. I changed my own air filter and cleaned the cabin filter. Now that the 20K free thing is done at 30K I will have some work done at a private shop (very good shop, used them for years) and continue to do some of the work myself. You should be able to go to the dealership and tell them to do ONLY what you want. They will try to pressure you I'm sure but always remember you are the customer and nothing is mandatory. Just ask a friend of mine who only changed his oil once in 100K miles on his Honda. In 100K miles, he changed the oil, oil filter, air filter and put on new tires - all at 50K miles. He traded it in on a new Honda at 100K miles with no problems. His total maintenance bill, including tires, only cost him about $700.00 in 100K miles. Amazing. Would I do it? Nope but lots of people do.

That's nuts considering you should flush your tranny oil at 75k, along with fuel injection cleaning. etc... I'm sure it's fine at a 100k but not much after 125 if he/she doesn't perform other basic maintenance.

When do we need to "flush" our transmission fluid? It's not a problem for them because they traded their vehicle in for a new one. My point is this:
The engineers at Toyota made a maintenance schedule. IMO it is not loaded up with unnecessary items designed to take advantage of your wallet. You can choose what or what not to do. Its your vehicle. I was just giving an example of someone who chooses not to follow their schedule. Oh, our transmission's sealed. I think it is 100K before fluid needs to be changed but not for sure until I can look in the manual.

Not sealed, just no dipstick. You can check the fluid but it is a longer procedure. If you drive normally the transmission fluid will last over 100K. The reason is good robust design that requires limited maintenance. Heat is the enemy of transmissions. If you tow (a lot) or carry heavy loads I think the schedule calls for 60K on the transmission fluid change. Regular driving who knows?

I also have a Tundra Crew Max and as I changed my oil on the truck I found a small white disk sitting on the skid plate. Drove it over to them asked the Service Manager what it was he called his Master Tech over and both told me it was something I must have picked up on the road.

I had my iPad and showed them that Tundra owners thru out the US must be the luckiest brotherhood in the world because these guys all picked up the same thing.

Part was from. TSB , they both had a deer in the head light look and offered a free oil change. I just cracked up and told them I wouldn't trust them to open a door much less repair a car.

Sadly no, I watched the tech change the oil on my Trail Edition Runner at Power Toyota Irvine. He managed to get thru it.

Only reason I was "allowed" to watch was that my wife was given a free oil change at Power when she had a 2009 Rav4 Limited 4WD. She let them change the oil and I did the next oil change. Got under the car and attempted to undo the oil filter. The nut was so tight I was shaking the Rav on the ramps. I drove over to Power and asked Steve Smith the service director to tell me who the tech who did the previous oil change. He came over and I asked him to remove the bolt using a normal wrench. He could not. He got a breaker bar still nothing, got a bigger bar no dice but the car was shaking on the lift. They finally used a impact wrench to remove it. They offered a free oil change and I said not on your life. He filled my tank for my trouble :redbrick:

can I Hire you to change my oil? sorry to thread jack but what's the recommended synthetic oil to use? How many quarts? I wanna do it myself but ive read it's pita to remove the skid/oil plate??
