Shift knob is loose! - Suggestions?

Shifting into R today my shift knob suddenly loosened up! I can turn and tighten it but then it is not 'straight', more at a 45 degree angle. This seems like a pathetic reason to take it back to the dealer. Is there an easy fix for this? Can I unscrew it, tighten the other end then resintall it, hopeing it will line up straight? Well I guess I have the 1st problem with the new 4R, very minor though, but still kind of annoying. Just broke 800 miles, only took about 2 months

I think there's a threaded nylon insert inside it. Keep twisting it against the force and it should be able to be rotated to an aligned position. I don't know whether you're just cutting the thread in the insert or if the liner rotates, but it should work.

I backed off the loose item and it was the knob, not the shaft into the console. The shaft was tight into the console and there was no way to adjust anything in the knob itself, so as one members sig says, brute force was applied. I kept tightening & loosening it over and over again, it took about 6 times, each time getting further around with the same amount of force. Now it is back straight, 1 full turn more than from the factory. I guess I will see how long that holds up for.

Mind was loose also. After reading your situation, I gave mind one good hard turn. Done deal.
