Should I have Toyota install my lift

Hey guys,
Just wondering what everyones thoughts are on having Toyota install my lift. Talked with the service/parts dept at the dealer where I bought my 2011 SR5. I purchased a 100k warranty with my 4R so I asked them what lift they put on their vehicles, he said a 3" Toytec leveling kit. He stated this would not effect any part of my warranty. I asked how much it would be to have them install this on my 4R he said $1200. I think where they are coming from on this is that a 3" Toytec leveling kit does not replace any Toyota parts therefore all parts would still be original Toyota and under warranty. But the problem I have is this kit is $300 so I would pay like 1k for installaiton, but have the peace of mind they will honor all of my warranty. Thoughts?

Seems a bit high. Isn't the shop rate usually $100 an hour? So… 10 hours?? Hmmmmm.

Does that include the price of the lift ?

Are you just talking spacers or the Toytec Ultimate lift . Both are 3" . I also have this warranty , but they must be smoking something if they are going to charge you 1200. HOLY !!! CRAPOLA !!!

Mountain States in Denver frequently lifts their 4runners which sit on the lot maybe a week when they do. I asked the parts department what lift it was and they said it was a 3" leveling kit which keeps everything stock and under warranty through Toyota. I believe the price quoted does include the price of the leveling kit. They are very quick to correct you that this is a Leveling Kit not a suspension lift, not sure why? Must be that they again want to stess that nothing is being replaced? But you are right the price seems more on par with the Ultimate Lift but that is not a "leveling kit?" I may have to get more info on the specific lift from them.

Just got off the phone with them. Yes its the $300 leveling kit and it's about a grand for labor. Once again they reiterated they will honor all of my warranty with this kit as it is not removing or replacing anything and not exceeding 3", which they apparently draw the line at. What would another shop generally charge for this? How much more am I paying for the benefit of peace of mind on my warranty?

Maybe get a quote from another dealer as well. You might also ask Toytec how long it takes to install the lift. If i remember correctly... somewhere around 3-5 hours. This way you can at least go in knowing that they should charge your for 5 hours of labor max.

I am trying to decide the same - I am doing the day star 2.5 inch kit (spacers front and rear). 4 wheel parts where I ordered the kit from will install for 135 plus 135 for alignment for a total of 270 plus the kit is 143 on their website right now - grand total 413 plus tax.

My dealer will do the install for 400 plus the kit so for the couple hundred more I am very tempted to do it at the dealer and take it back to them if anything goes wrong.

Thanks for the help guys this forum is the tits! I ended up calling another dealership and sure enough they use a different brand but quoted me at $670 for everything. Looks like I will bite the bullet here and just have Toyota do it for the added security. Haha may even accidently press record on my cell phone when asking the service manager if my warranty is safe after this lift!!! :trophy:

I'm a firm believer that everyone should do their install themselves. It's nice to know what you're doing, and awesome to save money.

As for what someone said about it not effecting other parts is BS. It has to effect something and it is an alteration from stock.

I would say do your homework and find out exactly what they are doing , what kit they are putting in , why or why not effecting anything , the dimensions of topout and preload on the spring , ect.... rear suspension work since 3" will put you way to high in front and NO it won't be level. I find this hard to believe . Facts ....man we need facts ect.....

The plus side is having the warranty honored . That would be excellent. Get it in writing !!

I didn't think lifts voided warranties regardless of who installs it.....unless the lift can specifically be tied to the problem. They're trying to rip you off (surprise). Especially if it's just spacers.

The Toytec 3" leveling kit is not just a front end lift. It's called a leveling kit but in fact its a spacer lift 1.5 rear 3 front it's on the website and the same lift the dealer uses, no guess work. With the spacer lift you are keeping all the stock components which are Toyota parts and under warranty, as explained by 2 different employees. Since they are good with this I am too, gotta pay a little extra but I'm covered for 100k miles and my rig looks the way I want it.

I can understand that ....... just get it in "WRITING" that it will not void you warranty . Don't trust the dealer. They may have a different manager in a year and you won't have anything to show him if he says tough crap !! We can't cover it .

Do it yourself, learn about your vehicle. It is super easy. I can take out and replace a coilover in less than an hour.

So it yourself for sure. 1200 bucks? are you kidding me? That is such a rip off. The suspension is very simple and straight forward and you will learn a lot in the process. The lift would not void the warranty anyways, read your warranty, don't just listen to hourly employees who don't really give a crap.

With the toytec ultimate lift is it pretty straight forward ? I'm going to attempt myself . It should be here by the end of the week.

Anything special I should know or special tools ?? Should I do the fronts or rears first ?? Someone told me the rear springs are a B***tch .

Shoot the bolts with PB blaster the night before, but besides that not much else you need to know. No special tools are required, jack stands, floor jack, wrenches and thats about it. If you search you will find plenty of writeups on instructions, and the kit itself should come with install instructions. For the rear coils you just need to articulate the axle to get them to fit in. Extra hands are nice for the whole job, it will go much faster and smoother.
