Hello, all... Going to look at a leftover 2011 next Tuesday... I have always heard awesome things about 4runners, and I think this one would be a great fit for my growing family. I have found a few negative comments about the 5th generation vehicles, and I am wondering why this leftover is well in simple terms “leftover”. Anyone have any pointers of what I should look for with common problems?

There are no "common problems" with the 4Runner. You should read this section of the forum before buying, the 5G section and a lot of question wil be answered. As for why it is left over, who knows. Could have too high cost, not right options, etc. Give details.

My post was talking about your normal Joe not us enthusiasts that do not care for size nor fuel economy so much but instead get these things for a passion.

I had a hard time finding current year new. 4runners do have there little issues. Brakes need getting used too, gas pedal (performance) needs to be pressed harder then normal vehicles. Tranny shifts very sluggish for better fuel economy.
There are many other options in the 40k price tag that get better onroad/offroad performance but lack in resale value and reliability..

What model is the left over (SR5, Trail, Limited)? I ask as my local dealer has a left over '11 TE (that I keep eyeing
) that has been sitting on the lot for a while. The SR5 and Limiteds keep moving. I'm guessing the dealer is playing hardball on the price of the TE.This weekend, I also noticed a large number of used 5th gens building up on dealer lots; mainly 2010 SR5s and one TE. Could the first round of leases be ending?
Land rover LR4, IMHO. Awesome on and offroad but reliability is not as good as 4runner.

The new LR4 is $50-$60k, the LR2 is the price range of the 4R, but nowhere near the vehicle.

Thats what I was gonna say. This 4runner, in my opinion, is best on road/ off road in its class! And I would feel bad to say I bet the TE doesn't even fall too short to the LR4 which is $10k-$20k more...

My buddy has an LR3, total piece of ****. I do not care what price it is, you could not GIVE me that headache.
The base is $48 so yea, I just lumped it in with the limited 4runner as I remembered the limited getting up to $44k at the dealership. It would be interesting to see how the stock trail does against the stock LR4s as they are both very capable. That said, the original response was towards the statement of on/offroad combination and the the LR4 is better in total - on road, there is no comparison even with the limited 4runner. Oh and yes, I did qualify the reliability gap in my initial post so thanks to the poster who chimed in with the wrong LR(Lr3).
All this to say, I can't waait to see the 2013 4runner as I expect some nice exterior and interior updates with the refresh. V8 would be gravy as the LR4 v8 is buttery smooth like my old 2004 v8 4runner but **** load of more power.

I posted before with the MSRP being higher, I know that you said LR4. I was not "wrong" in saying the LR3, it was used as a point of reference. And for your info, the LR3 = LR4 up until 2009 when they killed the 4.4 and started using the 5.0. Also, the LR3/LR4 is only rated for 12/17 MPG, far lower than the 4R. It is not a comparison of like vehicles in any way.
