I'm on fence with deciding on new tires for my Trail... Obviously i love the look of the Good Year MTR. A lot more than the side tread of the Duratracs... MTR looks more aggressive and like the angle tread, looks like motion. Duratracs look like a work tire. I may go with a more Highway tire such as the Revo 2. Post all pics please.

Man, I wish the DuraTracs came in 275s... there are DuraTracs in 265/70/17. Best snow tires I've ever owned.

LWN, Those look great! I really wanted to go with a C rated tire for a softer and more comfortable ride on road. Plus the E weigh more. Can you describe the on road characteristics of this setup and have you noticed less MPG?

The 275s do look like they fill the wheel arches a bit better. Call me crazy.

Thanks - they do look much better than the stock tires, and no rubbing whatsoever with the 275's. I actually had the dealer swap my tires so I can't compare the before/after MPG. But they handle fine and the ride isn't noticably harsh. But then I've had the same tire, albeit in a 16" tire with D load range, on my 98 4Runner for the last 10 years so I may just be used to it.

To me, the ride actually feels very nice, MUCH softer than my 98, but I'm sure it is some degree stiffer than it would be with a C rated tire. A lot depends upon the tire pressure you run in them. But then again, I've consistently got 60-70K miles out of the last three sets of BGF AT's I've owned and have never had any problems with them - they always wear perfectly, and I like that.

Quite possibly. It looks like I've got 1/2" of clearance on the front & rear with the 275's, and I believe a 285 would be 1/2" taller, or 1/4" on each side. The position of the tape isn't the best, but the clearance is very close to 1/2" front and back.

Thanks LWN for doing the photos and measurements... Very cool. Yes, may fit a bigger tire but not sure when the suspension compresses what would happen or when lock to lock with steering. 275s look good. Just not sure about the E compound and weight. Let us know what kind of gas milage you are getting. I got around 18.5 during break in. Taking it easy and driving in eco mode. Looks sweet though.

how much were a set-of-5 your new BFG tires (if you don't mind my asking)?

i'm taking delivery soon of my new SR5 and thinking about trading in my fresh, zero-mileage stock tires for a set of all-terrain tires.

I only bought 4 since I've run those same tires for 10 years and 250K miles on my last T4R and I've never had a flat or needed the spare. So I paid $700 + tax net of the trade, which was $300. So I guess they're around $1,000 installed with no trade credit.

My dealer was kind enough to handle all the leg work so I took delivery with the new tires installed. But Harper got the exact same tires for his rig from Discount Tire for the same price and they gave him the same credit for the stock tires. They're great tires - last 60K miles, wear evenly, not too noisy on-road, great in sand, and respectable in mud too.

Hello all. Still would love to see more pics. I still not sure what to get. The BFG TA and Duratracs above both look good. I noticed they are both E rated tires. I would prolly get C, And those have WOL, White Outline Letters. Wonder how that would look on my Black truck.

you might want to consider these as well. i'm going to have them mounted once i take delivery of my truck so i'll post up after that happens. then you'll be able to see what it looks like on a 2010.

i got them for an excellent price for a set of 4 and read decent reviews on them online.

I bought a set of take off FJ wheels and take off Jeep Rubicon tires ($650 total for the full set of 5 wheels and tires) to use as an off road set - very economical and you can still have the MPG's you want when you are not off road by putting the stock wheel tire combo back on. -- Works for me!
