Show off your custom Ipod dock

Im looking into replacing my head unit. I've come across a few stereos with built in docs. First on my list was Boss 758DBI because i like the integrated doc. But I really cant find many reviews on that particular model. Found some on the discontinued ones but they were very mixed. Anyways, i'm a fan of JVV head units thats what i've had in the past and loved it. But i'd like to hardwire a doc in somewhere. Looking at possibly the ashtray area or a cup holder. I'm basically looking for ideas.

I have a double-din JVC in my Taco, about to put the same in my T4R. I kept it simple though, ran the cables to the glove box and leave it in there. For the T4R I'm thinking of running it up the console and inside of it. That way it's still hidden but a bit easier to access from the driver's seat.

Anything in the open would be a theft target around here.

Edit: Now that I re-read your thread a bit more I realized I probably didn't help your quest at all, lol. Nothing too custom or fancy for docking in my post, sorry!

That "Boss 758DBI" looks like crap! Sorry my personal opinion may been a little harsh.

Buy a HU that is I-POD ready, with port on back. Route the cable threw the middle console into the arm rest. This way if you wish to get to the I-POD wile driving, its within reach. If you locate it to the glove box then if you wish to get to it then its harder to reach while driving.

Majority of HU's can control the I-POD from the HU unlike some where you need to control from the pod itself. Putting the doc in the ash tray or cup holder area just looks cheesy and unprofessional. HOWEVER if the HU can not control the I-POD then that will the best space to reach while driving.

I actually dont think it "looks" bad. I like the idea of the built in dock. The biggest issue is that its a Boss. lol. Decided against it, still looking for something.

I remember seeing someone make a mount in the cubby underneath the center console latch. They used a ipod dock and made a mounting plate from some spare plastic. It looked nice and was in a nice spot for accessibility, it was angled forward over the DAC button toward the shifter. The only drawback I could see was if you wanted to flip the front piece of the arm rest out, you would hit the ipod. I think it was a member named cooperx, try PM'ing him for some pics. Good luck!!
