Side Mirror - glass replacement

Hi all,

In case any of you need to replace the mirror glass, but not the housing - here's some advice that might make it a simple job:

The part number for my 2004 Limited 4Runner (w/ heated mirrors) was 87931-6A430

This part came with the mirror glass installed on the black backing.

Remove the broken glass+backing by gently pushing on top of mirror so that it pivots upward, creating a gap at the bottom (so you can see behind the mirror as you look upward).

Using a flat-head screwdriver, insert between the black backing on the mirror and the white mounting plate to which it connects. There are two spots where you will have to do this, should come apart fairly easily. Refer to the new backing plate to see the tabs you are un-popping.

With those two tabs freed from their slots, gently pull down and out to unhook the remaining upper tabs. Careful as the heater wires will still be attached.

Remove heater wires from old mirror (the covers and metal connectors slide off) and put on new mirror.

Re-install new mirror (upper hooks first, then push firmly to seat the bottom tabls into slots.

Easy! Took me longer to find the instructions on the interwebs than it did to do the repair - hope this helps someone with a similar need!

Thanks for posting, the R&R instructions will help many to replace their's, but want to say the part number... 87931-6A430 ... you have posted is for the right/passengers side heated mirror.

Part number for the left/driver's side heated mirror is.... 87961-6A300

Also the part numbers for the non-heated mirrors are...

right... 87931-35600
Left.... 87961-35620

Not sure what you paid for your's but from what I have seen the heated mirrors are around $66 for either the right or left.

The non-heated are around $43 for the left but for reasons not known to me the right side is around $85 to $90++!! :jaw:

That all being said I found complete after market heated mirror assemblies for $43 for the either the right or left with free shipping, they are unpainted so that would have to be done, my mirrors are fine except the housings which the paint is so sun faded that it's down to raw plastic in some areas and the right housing has a big hole in it where some inconsiderate idiot must of smashed into it in a parking lot, so I'm considering getting these instead of removing mine repairing the hole and the considerable sanding and prep work to get them ready for painting, just wondering if anyone else has gotten these aftermarket assemblies to see if they actually fit and are of OK quality(?), I would keep the OEMs for parts if needed later on.
