Hi all,
In case any of you need to replace the mirror glass, but not the housing - here's some advice that might make it a simple job:
The part number for my 2004 Limited 4Runner (w/ heated mirrors) was 87931-6A430
This part came with the mirror glass installed on the black backing.
Remove the broken glass+backing by gently pushing on top of mirror so that it pivots upward, creating a gap at the bottom (so you can see behind the mirror as you look upward).
Using a flat-head screwdriver, insert between the black backing on the mirror and the white mounting plate to which it connects. There are two spots where you will have to do this, should come apart fairly easily. Refer to the new backing plate to see the tabs you are un-popping.
With those two tabs freed from their slots, gently pull down and out to unhook the remaining upper tabs. Careful as the heater wires will still be attached.
Remove heater wires from old mirror (the covers and metal connectors slide off) and put on new mirror.
Re-install new mirror (upper hooks first, then push firmly to seat the bottom tabls into slots.
Easy! Took me longer to find the instructions on the interwebs than it did to do the repair - hope this helps someone with a similar need!
